Arizona Regulation of Flight Training Defeated

As mentioned in an NATA member alert yesterday, the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education considered, during a public meeting earlier today, whether flight training conducted under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulation, part 61 falls under the board’s regulatory purview.

At the opening of the meeting, a majority of the board expressed its opinion that Part 61 flight training was not under the board’s jurisdiction. Several members of the board expressed concern over the fact that some flight schools students had lost significant sums of money to predatory flight schools. After receiving public comment for one hour, the board passed a motion determining that flight training performed under Part 61 does not fall under their authority.

NATA submitted formal comments to the board prior to the public meeting and participated in the meeting via teleconference.
