nullNATA Continues Advocacy on IRS Excise Tax Issue

NATA is continuing efforts to engage the Treasury Department and IRS in a constructive dialogue about the proper tax treatment of fees paid by aircraft owners for management services.  Last fall, the IRS suspended federal excise tax (FET) assessments related to aircraft management-related fees and placed the issue on its annual Priority Guidance List.

NATA and other industry representatives recently met with officials from the Treasury Department to discuss the status of any upcoming regulatory guidance on the FET.  During this productive meeting, the Treasury Department personnel indicated a willingness to consider a guidance strategy that could more closely align IRS commercial and noncommercial determinations with those of the FAA.  Treasury officials asked industry participants to provide additional information to help educate them on how the FAA currently regulates the general aviation industry. Those materials were provided and another meeting is anticipated to continue discussions.

NATA will continue to remain actively engaged in representing member interests on this significant issue.
