Last week, NATA staff participated in several meetings related to the development of unleaded aviation fuel.  On Tuesday, the Piston Aviation Fuels Initiative (PAFI) Steering Group, of which NATA is a member, met in Washington, D.C. The FAA and industry engaged in discussions on the progress, plan, and schedule of Phase I: Lab Tests, Emissions & Toxicology Assessments; the plan and schedule for Phase II: Full Scale Engine & Aircraft Testing, and reviewed the status update on the aircraft and engine test program. The PAFI Steering Group also discussed next steps in addressing issues related to the transition from 100LL to unleaded Avgas. The next PAFI Steering Group meeting is scheduled for December 8th in Austin, Texas.

Later in the week, NATA was part of the “New Unleaded Avgas Deployment” working group meeting at the American Petroleum Institute.  The group reviewed the legislative and regulatory activities associated with the removal of lead from aviation gasoline. nullNATA Applauds FAA’s New Compliance Philosophy

In an October 6th speech, FAA Administrator Michael Huerta discussed the agency’s next step in its Risk-Based Decision Making called the Compliance Philosophy. NATA President Tom Hendricks praised the shift in oversight emphasis from enforcement action to safety compliance stating, "As Administrator Huerta noted, the effectiveness of this change requires an open and transparent exchange of information and data between the FAA and the aviation community. nullNATA Calls For Extension of Critical Investment Tax Incentives

In a letter to Congress last week, NATA and more than 200 leading associations and companies called for the extension of critical pro-growth, pro-jobs, pro-investment tax incentives including enhanced Section 179 expensing and bonus depreciation. The group noted, “The current uncertainty about these tax policies is discouraging investment in the United States and, in some cases, keeping companies on the sidelines. This impacts both companies that make investments and companies that manufacture capital equipment and reduces job growth that typically accompanies such investments. Renewing these provisions will provide an immediate incentive for businesses to make additional capital investments, boosting economic growth and job creation.”
