NATA Seeks to Recognize “FBOs: Above and Beyond” In New Initiative

Last Friday, NATA announced the “FBOs: Above and Beyond” initiative to highlight the extraordinary services provided by our Fixed Base Operator (FBO) members. The association's goal is to provide a well-rounded perspective on the FBO industry, directly from those with first-hand experience.

Fixed Base Operators are the gateway to communities nationwide and provide essential services to keep general aviation healthy, sustainable and successful — many going above the call. We would like to hear of these stories and share them with the public.

Please tell us about:

  • Excellent customer service experiences
  • Disaster relief efforts
  • Charitable contributions and events
  • Community outreach and development
  • Aviation workforce development initiatives

Share your story, please visit www.nata.aero/aboveandbeyond or

Congress Working to Approve FY2018 Omnibus Spending Package | NATA Monitoring Provisions Beneficial to GA

This week, both chambers of Congress are working diligently to pass an omnibus spending package for fiscal year 2018 before the March 23rd funding deadline. The package, which will fund the government through the end of September 2018, should contain NATA-sought provisions to enhance safety and regulatory consistency for the aviation business community, including language related to repair stations, Part 135 industry trends, and improving air carrier certification for small businesses.

The House Appropriations Committee is expected to release its $1.3 trillion omnibus appropriations package later today with a full House vote scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday. The legislation then will head to the Senate for a full chamber vote and eventual passage into law by President Trump. This process must happen by this Friday to prevent a government shutdown. Follow NATA’s social media channels for updates and analysis of the fiscal year 2018 omnibus appropriations legislation.

FAA’s Annual Aerospace Forecast Predicts a “Stable to Optimistic” Outlook for General Aviation

Last week, the FAA released its annual Aerospace Forecast Report Fiscal Years (FY) 2018-2038, highlighting the long-term outlook for general aviation as “stable to optimistic, as growth at the high-end offsets continuing retirements at the traditional low end of the segment.” The fixed-wing piston aircraft fleet is forecasted to shrink over the years, while the turbine and rotorcraft fleets will expect to see continued growth due to a steady progression of GDP and corporate profits. According to the forecast, the number of general aviation hours flown is expected to increase an average of 0.8% per year through 2038. As for general aviation fuel consumption, the forecasted consumption of avgas is projected to decrease by 0.6% each year from 2018-2038, versus the projected growth per annum of 1.7% for jet fuel.

Help the FAA Provide Accurate Information on Aviation Activity and Safety

The 40th annual General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey (GA Survey) is underway! The FAA’s annual GA Survey is the only government source of information on the general aviation fleet, the number of hours flown, and the ways people use general aviation aircraft. The data helps determine funding for infrastructure and service needs, assess the impact of regulatory changes, and measure aviation safety. If you are selected to complete this year’s survey, you should have received a postcard invitation to participate. You can complete the survey online, or submit the survey form that was mailed to you in the postage-paid envelope. Your responses will be used for statistical purposes and will not be published or released in any form that would reveal an individual participant. If you have any questions, please contact survey manager Tetra Tech toll-free at 1-800-826-1797 or email infoaviationsurvey@tetratech.com. Previous years’ survey results can be found here.

Participate in NATA's 2018 Compensation Survey

We encourage your participation in NATA’s 2018 Compensation Survey. All information will be kept strictly confidential and cannot be tied back to the respondent or reporting location by anyone (including NATA), and will be reported only in aggregate with other responses. The survey will provide valuable information that NATA members can use to ensure compensation and benefits are competitive with others in the industry.

The results of the report are only as good as the quality of the data submitted and the number of companies that respond, we ask all members to please participate in the survey so that NATA can provide the best data results possible. The general aviation community greatly benefits from this resource, thanks to your cooperation.

To begin, you will need your membership number and the necessary compensation and benefit information. The deadline to complete the survey is April 15, 2018. Participate by contacting Jake Legere at jlegere@nata.aero.
