Ongoing Shutdown Highlights Need for Swift Government Resolution

Back NATA News / October 14, 2025

The stalemate over government funding continues with no discernable end in sight, even as federal employees face their first interrupted paychecks later this week—including critical aviation safety and security personnel in air traffic control and TSA. Both chambers of Congress continue in their holding patterns, with the House of Representatives adjourned and the Senate reconvening today to continue voting on the funding patch that has failed seven times on the Senate floor. Meanwhile, the DOT is not on the first list of reduction in force (RIF) plans announced by the White House Friday, a positive sign for the more than 11,000 furloughed FAA employees. NATA continues to call on Washington leaders to find solutions to end the government shutdown, which wastes taxpayer dollars, harms federal employees, and introduces potential safety risks. Please share any effect the shutdown has had on your business or operations with the NATA team by emailing VP of Regulatory Affairs Jenny Ann Urban at jurban@nata.aero.
