On December 3, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced revisions to its Antidepressant Protocol for aviators and air traffic control specialists, expanding the list of conditionally approved medications and reducing the required stabilization period from six months to three. These updates align with changes outlined in the revised Aviation Medical Examiners (AME) Guide.
Mental health remains a critical issue across the aviation workforce. The FAA continues to advance initiatives that reduce stigma, encourage disclosure, and minimize unnecessary downtime for professionals seeking support. NATA remains an active partner in these efforts, collaborating with industry and government stakeholders to improve access to mental health resources and eliminate barriers to care. NATA also serves as an advisory member on the Aviation Workforce Mental Health Task Group, helping to evaluate recommendations from the Mental Health ARC and contributing to the future implementation efforts tied to sections 411 and 413 of the FAA Reauthorization Bill.
