FAA Issues Warning for Airspace Near Venezuela

Back NATA News / November 25, 2025

The FAA has issued a security NOTAM and background statement warning operators of potentially hazardous conditions in the airspace around Venezuela. Operators intending flights in the affected area must provide advance notice to the FAA at least 72-hours prior to planned operations.

The warning applies to all aircraft operating in the Maiquetia Flight Information Region (SVZM FIR), including overflights and arrivals/departures within that area. The FAA cites a worsening security situation and heightened military activity in and around Venezuela. Along with the increased military presence, civil aircraft have also reported satellite navigation interference when transiting the region. NATA encourages operators to review the NOTAM and statement if they conduct operations in the SVZM FIR and plan accordingly.
