On Friday, the FAA launched a website that offers in-depth, transparent tracking of more than 10,000 air traffic control modernization projects nationwide. In addition to a breakdown of key air traffic modernization efforts, the FAA’s “Modern Skies” website includes an interactive national map of ongoing projects, a local impact search engine, and a progress tracker that will be updated monthly. In our advocacy for air traffic control modernization funding, NATA has consistently called for greater public transparency, FAA accountability, and Congressional oversight to ensure efficient and wise use of taxpayer funds. The Modern Skies dashboard is a positive step toward providing such transparency and accountability for the $12.5 billion Congress allocated for air traffic control modernization last year, as well as future appropriations necessary to complete the Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNACTS).
