A new Government Accountability Office report found that general aviation fuel prices are widely available online and generally match information provided directly by FBOs. Pilot groups interviewed by GAO were generally satisfied with the availability of pricing information, and those experiencing disputes said the issues were resolved by speaking with the FBO.
The report highlights steps FBOs are taking to improve access to information, including centralized pricing, mobile applications, online reservations, and regular pricing updates. GAO also recognized the challenges of presenting fees that vary by aircraft, service, discounts, demand, and special events.
The FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 directed GAO to review the efforts of FBOs to improve the online transparency of prices and fees for aviation users. NATA participated in the study, providing the aviation business perspective and explaining the industry’s ongoing efforts through Know Before You Go. GAO reported no related formal complaints to the FAA or enforcement actions by the Federal Trade Commission and made no recommendations for additional federal action.
