Today marks the 7th day of federal government shutdown, with the likelihood of resolution between Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill still uncertain. As detailed in NATA’s legislative update last week, the Senate continues to vote on a “clean” continuing resolution passed by the House in September; thus far, the short-term funding package has failed 5 votes without picking up the additional support needed for Senate passage. Meanwhile, media reports of air traffic control delays and comments by DOT Secretary Sean Duffy that the Essential Air Service Program would soon run out of funding will likely increase public pressure on Congress to find a solution.
NATA is monitoring both immediate disruptions to aviation businesses and longer-term challenges posed by limited FAA, TSA, and CBP services. Your input is critical to our communication with key decision-makers and will assist our efforts to mitigate any risks to industry safety, oversight, and operational continuity. Please share any impact the shutdown has on your operations with NATA Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Jenny Ann Urban at jurban@nata.aero.
The NATA team remains actively engaged in Washington to advocate for an expeditious end to the shutdown and reduced impacts on your businesses. We will continue to monitor developments closely and keep you updated.
