We’re all familiar with the saying, “Hurry up and wait.” However, January 20th will have more of a “wait it out” aspect. The following restrictions apply to airspace over Washington, DC, on Inauguration Day.
Effective Hours:
- 0800 to 2300 EST (Times are indicated as local hours)
Airspace Impacted:
- DC SFRA (Special Flight Rules Area): Surface to 17999 feet MSL within the 30 nautical mile radius of the DCA VOR/DME.
- DC FRZ (Flight Restricted Zone): Surface to 17999 ft MSL.
Operations Allowed:
- Part 135 and Part 91 aircraft on an IFR flight plan may depart from and arrive at the following airports, with a discrete code assigned by ATC: Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Dulles International Airport (KIAD), Leesburg Executive Airport (KJYO), and Manassas Regional Airport (KHEF).
Operations Restricted:
- Part 91 IFR/VFR may not transit the SFRA, except for the flights stated above.
- Visual Flight Rule operations, flight training, UAS and non-essential activities are suspended in the SFRA/FRZ.
