New Safety 1st Resources Expand Awareness of Human Trafficking

Back NATA News / January 20, 2026

NATA continues to strengthen its Safety 1st Training portfolio with the launch of the Human Trafficking Awareness in Aviation Certification, designed to help aviation professionals recognize potential indicators of human trafficking and understand how to respond appropriately. Developed in alignment with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Blue Lightning Initiative, the certification uses practical, aviation-specific scenarios to reinforce awareness and prevention—not intervention. Participants gain insight into behavioral and situational red flags, appropriate reporting pathways, and how to prioritize personal safety while supporting broader prevention efforts.

Accessible online through the Safety 1st Training Center, the course incorporates video-based learning and a knowledge check quiz to enhance engagement and reinforce key concepts. The certification integrates easily into existing training, safety, and compliance programs and is available at no additional cost to Safety 1st subscribers. The aviation community plays a critical role in prevention. Awareness is the first step. Learn more: www.safety1st.aero. In addition to Safety 1st, aviation professionals can explore supplemental awareness tools and resources available through the Blue Lightning Initiative.
