NTSB Recommends Specialized Pilot Training for Hawker Stall Test Flights

Back NATA News / January 13, 2026

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is recommending that operators of certain Hawker aircraft implement specialized pilot training and qualification standards for post-maintenance stall test flights following two fatal accidents and additional serious incidents.

The recommendations stem from NTSB investigations into fatal accidents in 2024 and 2025, as well as other events in which unacceptable stall characteristics were observed during stall test flights. The NTSB identified potentially severe stall behavior, including uncommanded rolls through 360 degrees and spin entry.

According to the NTSB, the training and experience required to safely conduct these flights may exceed that typically provided to line pilots.

Operators of the Hawker 700, 800, 800XP, 850XP, and 900XP are strongly encouraged to review NTSB Aviation Incident Report AIR-26-01, which calls for a review of affected aircraft listed under the same type certificate and the development of pilot training, qualification requirements, and a defined stall test flight plan.
