Upcoming NATA Webinar Tackles Excise Tax Confusion with Brokered Flights

Back NATA News / September 15, 2026

On October 7, NATA will host a new webinar to help air charter operators manage Federal Excise Tax (FET) application, collection, and remission when a broker is involved in the transaction. During the 1-hour session, FET On Brokered Flights — Why Is It So Complicated?, attendees will gain an understanding of how the IRS regulations and guidance for excise taxes can lead to confusion and potential air carrier liability when a third-party broker is involved in the transaction.

In the air charter industry, the staff responsible for day-to-day tax application and collection of information for quarterly filings are often not tax professionals. This webinar is the second in a series of presentations designed to give the part 135 community a better understanding of the complex tax rules applicable to aviation and to assist employees with FET duties who may not have a background in this area.

Featured speaker Nel Stubbs will bring her depth of excise tax knowledge to this key issue facing air charter operators. As a member of NATA’s Air Charter Committee and founder of Stubbs Aviation Advisors, Nel has provided federal excise tax expertise to the industry for four decades.

The webinar is free to NATA members and available to nonmembers for $75, which will be waived upon joining NATA. Register now to ensure you are prepared to implement procedures and minimize audit risks.
