The aviation fueling industry has reached the final stage of its transition away from EI-qualified superabsorbent polymer (SAP) filter monitors. In its November 2025 Final Notice, Parker Velcon announced it will cease production of CDF-2xxP EI 1583 7th edition monitors and 5″/6″ ACO-series SAP elements on December 31, 2025, marking the end of EI-qualified SAP element manufacturing worldwide.
This follows earlier exits by FAUDI Aviation Americas (2020) and Facet Filters (2023). With no new EI-qualified filter monitor elements being produced after 2025, and as detailed in previous editions of NATA News, refueling operators (both Avgas and Jet-A) must finalize and implement their transition plans without delay.
Impact on General Aviation
Parker Velcon’s discontinuation of ACO-series elements—commonly used in VF-61, VF-62, VF-65, and VF-609 housings—has significant implications for GA fueling systems long reliant on these compact cartridges. Operators should now move to non-SAP filtration to maintain fuel cleanliness, continuity, and compliance.
Industry Roadmap: EI 1587
The Energy Institute’s EI 1587 Recommended Practice provides the primary guidance for selecting next-generation single-cartridge filtration technologies. The document includes comparisons of available filter types, technology-selection tools, and conversion guidance for legacy SAP housings. EI 1587 is available for free download.
NATA Recommends:
- Audit all filtration systems now.
- Use EI 1587 and consult fuel suppliers to identify appropriate non-SAP replacements.
