Bill to Modernize FAA Aircraft Maintenance Documentation Introduced on Capitol Hill

Back NATA News / June 2, 2026

Last week, House Aviation Subcommittee Chairman Troy Nehls (R-TX) introduced the Major Repair and Alteration Modernization Act to modernize aircraft maintenance. The legislation directs the FAA to modernize and expand electronic filing capabilities for FAA Form 337, which mechanics and repair stations use to record major aircraft repairs or alterations. Currently reliant on a manual, paper-based process, the bill enables voluntary digital submissions and integration with third-party platforms via secure APIs. This change aims to significantly reduce administrative burdens, improve record transparency, and allow aviation mechanics to spend less time on tedious paperwork and more time keeping aircraft safe and airworthy.
