EAGLE Update: AirVenture 2025 Unleaded Avgas

Back NATA News / September 3, 2025

FAA and EAGLE leaders took questions from the audience at AirVenture 2025, offering the latest insights on the move to unleaded avgas. Stakeholders from across the GA industry confirmed that all currently approved unleaded fuels and those in development can safely mix with 100LL, but operators should still check OEM documentation to confirm compatibility. For experimental aircraft, owners are responsible for determining suitability, with helpful data available through STC holders and FAA resources. On the infrastructure side, federal programs like AIP and IIJA can help cover costs of new storage tanks, and portable storage options are available to support early adopters. Certification testing under both STC and PAFI has shown promising results, with cleaner operation and reduced engine wear. Looking ahead, the goal is broader availability by 2027, while supplies of 100LL are expected to remain available through at least 2030—extended to 2032 in Alaska.
