FAA Extends Comment Period on Proposed Drone Restrictions Near Fixed-Site Facilities

Back NATA News / June 30, 2026

The FAA has extended the comment period on its proposed rule to establish a process for certain fixed-site facilities to request Unmanned Aircraft Flight Restrictions, or UAFRs, near their locations.

The proposal would allow eligible facility operators and proprietors to request drone flight restrictions when needed for aviation safety, protection of people and property on the ground, national security, or homeland security. While separate from the FAA’s Part 108 BVLOS rulemaking, the proposal may be of interest to aviation businesses and airport stakeholders monitoring UAS activity, facility security, and low-altitude airspace access.

Comments are now due August 5, 2026.
