NATA Legislative Alert: Act Now to Prevent Privatization of the Air Traffic Control System
June 23, 2017
Dear Fellow Aviation Business Leader:
The House Transportation Committee has released the details of its long-awaited FAA reauthorization bill, H.R. 2997, the 21st Century AIRR Act, which creates a user-fee funded air traffic control corporation. The House Transportation Committee will consider the proposal as early as June 27th, so it is urgent that you immediately contact your Congressmen and Senators in opposition.
Just a few keystrokes through NATA’s Legislative Action Center lets policymakers on Capitol Hill know you have joined NATA and the other major general aviation associations, including AOPA, EAA, GAMA, HAI and NBAA, in opposing a proposal that “will produce uncertainty and unintended consequences without achieving the desired outcomes.”
NATA and our colleagues at the other general aviation associations understand there is room for improvement at the FAA. However, we believe this divisive proposal should be set aside in favor of “needed reforms that create predictable and stable funding for the FAA including biennial budgeting, consolidating unneeded and outdated facilities, procurement, and certification reforms, and putting to use some of the balance from the Airport and Airways Trust Fund to expedite technology deployment.”
Your opinion is what matters most to lawmakers, so at this critical moment in the debate your voice simply must be heard. We urge you to contact Congress now!
Thank you for your consideration. We will continue to keep you apprised as events unfold.
Best Regards,
Martin Hiller President NATA
