OSHA Updates Heat Hazards Program, With Relevance for Air Transportation Support Activities

Back NATA News / April 14, 2026

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has updated its National Emphasis Program on outdoor and indoor heat-related hazards, and the revised program includes Support Activities for Air Transportation in Appendix A among industries identified for focused outreach, compliance assistance, and potential inspection attention. OSHA said the updated program took effect April 10, 2026, and will remain in place for five years.

For aviation businesses with outdoor-facing operations, the update is a timely reminder to review heat illness prevention practices as warmer weather approaches. OSHA said the revised program is designed to direct agency resources to industries and workplaces where heat stress risks are most likely to occur, including on days when the National Weather Service issues a heat advisory or warning.
