The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently announced the TSA ConfirmID service, a new identity verification option intended to assist passengers who do not present an acceptable form of identification. At this time, the service is not available for operations under the Twelve-Five Standard Security Program or the DCA Access Standard Security Program. NATA is actively engaging with TSA for workable solutions that ensure charter passengers without a REAL ID have appropriate access to travel.
According to the TSA, “starting February 1, 2026, passengers who do not present an acceptable form of ID (including non-REAL ID compliant state-issued identification) at TSA checkpoints may verify their ID using TSA ConfirmID, TSA’s modernized alternative identity verification option. TSA ConfirmID is a fee-based service designed to enhance security and streamline identity verification for air travelers who do not have an acceptable form of ID. TSA ConfirmID ensures compliance with federal security standards and strengthens the safety of air travel by preventing unauthorized individuals, including terrorists, illegal aliens, and other bad actors, from accessing domestic aviation systems.” Answers to ConfirmID FAQs can be found here.
NATA will keep members apprised of any developments related to the applicability of this or other verification programs to the air charter environment.
