NATA Talks Airport-Tenant Relations and CBP Programs at AAAE Conference

Today, NATA Senior Vice President Bill Deere spoke at AAAE's annual General Aviation Issues and Security Conference in Denver, Colorado. Deere noted the success of aviation businesses is directly tied to healthy and vibrant airports and reiterated NATA’s commitment to enhancing airport-tenant relations. He also updated attendees on the FAA reauthorization process and the risk that air traffic control corporatization proposals pose to general aviation airports. Deere ended with remarks on the recently released GAO report, requested by NATA, which concluded a 2005 change in tax law is resulting in an annual diversion from the Aviation Trust Fund to highway construction of between $100 and $200 million. Bill asked GA airport managers to join in the effort to stop this diversion. Later today, NATA Board Members Curt Castagna (President/CEO of Aerolease Group) and Clara Bennett (Executive Director of Boca Raton Airport Authority) will lead a panel, The Challenges and Opportunities in Launching GA User Fee CBP Programs.

EPA Releases Findings on GHG Emissions from Aircraft Engines

Last week, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a final rule concluding that greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from certain classes of aircraft engines contribute to the air pollution that causes climate change, thereby endangering public health and welfare under the Clean Air Act (CAA) section 231(a)(2)(A). The final rule — effective September 14, 2016 — applies to “classes of engines used in U.S. covered aircraft, which are subsonic jet aircraft with a maximum takeoff mass (MTOM) greater than 5,700 kilograms and subsonic propeller driven (e.g., turboprop) aircraft with a MTOM greater than 8,618 kilograms.” Examples of these aircraft include the Cessna Citation CJ3+, the Embraer E170 and larger aircraft such as the Boeing 747. The EPA’s findings are the precursor to a future domestic rulemaking process to adopt future GHG standards. Any future proposed aircraft engine standards will be open to public comment and review before they could take effect. Read more.

Earlier this month, Cutter Aviation hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new FBO Executive Terminal at Colorado Springs Airport (KCOS).
