NATA President Discusses the Dangers Airlinization of Air Traffic Control Poses to GA
|
|
Last week, NATA President Martin H. Hiller joined a panel of general aviation association leaders to discuss the airline industry initiative to take over the air traffic control system. The panel took place at the No Plane No Gain Media Kick-Off Breakfast held during the NBAA Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition in Las Vegas.
The focus of the discussion was H.R. 2997, legislation authored by Transportation Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) to privatize the nation’s air traffic control system. Hiller described the legislation as “the airlinization of air traffic control. Under the bill, the corporation is completely funded by the airlines and in the eyes of the airlines, there is no difference between a 737 and a piston twin. The reality is that it's a long-term plan where the airlines want to cost-shift. In that construct, the death of GA [General Aviation] comes not abruptly the day the bill is signed into law, but rather like dusk turning to night. Within a few years, you will no longer recognize GA in America.”

NATA awards several scholarships throughout the year to aviation college/university program and flight training students — as well as to association members looking to continue their education. The National Air Transportation Foundation (NATF) is currently accepting applications for: The Pioneers of Flight Scholarship, The Dan L. Meisinger Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship and The NATA Business Scholarship. Multiple awards are available from $1,000 to $2,500 with application deadlines in November and December 2017. NATA Holds Final 2017 Advanced Line Service Workshop on November 14-15 in Ft. Myers, FL

On November 14th and 15th, NATA will hold its final 2017 Advanced Line Service (ALS) Workshop at Base Operations Page Field in Fort Myers, FL. This popular two-day workshop includes discussions on motivation and leadership techniques, customer service training and the impact of human factors on aviation ground handling. In addition, attendees will learn about advanced aviation fuel handling and quality control, including hands-on training.

Sheltair Announces Plans to Develop New Corporate Hangars at Fort Lauderdale’s FXE Northside Properties

Last week, Sheltair announced its plan to develop the last remaining open plot of land on the north side of Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE) in Florida. With an expected spring 2019 completion, the development of the airport’s Northside will include 157,000 square feet of hangar space and an additional 31,000 square feet of office and shop space. Banyan Air Service will provide fuel handling services to aircraft at Sheltair’s new development. “The opportunities at FXE continue to grow year after year,” said Todd Anderson, Sheltair’s Senior Vice President for Real Estate and Development. “With an extensively large leasehold and presence of hangars and offices on the south side of FXE, we’re excited to develop this last remaining parcel of land to further support the general aviation community and surrounding Fort Lauderdale area.”
Along with its developments at FXE, this fall, Sheltair will open its Westside Hangar Complex at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)—featuring eight hangars ranging from 13,500 to 20,000 square feet each—and its executive hangar complex at Tampa International Airport (TPA)—featuring 32,000 square feet of space. Jet Aviation Celebrates 50-Year Anniversary
|

On October 11th, Jet Aviation marked its 50th anniversary with a gala event. “We will celebrate the past while focusing on the future,” said Group CEO Rob Smith. The company is taking the opportunity of its 50th anniversary to rebrand its logo and implement consistency amongst its 25 locations. In 1967, Carl Hirschmann founded Jet Aviation as a maintenance hangar in Basel. The Hirschmann family ran and expanded the business until selling to the Permira private equity fund in 2005, which grew the business further and sold it to General Dynamics three years later.
“Jet Aviation had grown up as a family-owned company,” Smith adds. “Some of that atmosphere has changed; we’re now very process driven, but we still want customers to feel our warmth and heartbeat.” Read more.

ACI Jet Breaks Ground On $17M Corporate Headquarters, Adds Fourth Hangar at SBP

ACI Jet recently began construction on the company's new $17M corporate headquarters at San Luis Obispo Airport in California. The 35,000-sq-ft office complex will include a new 25,000-sq-ft hangar. "We are bursting at the seams in our current facility," stated ACI Jet President and CEO William Borgsmiller. "We're adding staff members at an increasing rate with the launch of several new services exclusive to ACI in the works, and this new workspace cannot come soon enough."

Last week, USAIG welcomed the Air Charter Safety Foundation’s (ACSF) Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) to its Performance Vector safety initiative. Performance Vector delivers valuable, forward-looking safety support for USAIG-insured operators of turbine aircraft. Eligible policyholders can choose annually from a range of programs and services delivered by leading providers.
