In FBO Pricing Dispute, Critics Say Numbers Don’t Add Up
|
|
Flying Magazine Editor Stephen Pope reached out to NATA President Marty Hiller to discuss “the blurring line between fact and fiction in [the] public feud with airports and FBOs.” The article questions the “Egregious FBO Pricing” illustrated on AOPA’s website, pointing out discrepancies between the prices on the association’s site and the actual pricing. It also describes this ongoing debate as an aviation-on-aviation fight reminiscent of the battle to privatize the nation’s ATC system. Hiller warns of the dangers associated with AOPA’s stance if free market forces no longer allow these businesses to meet their obligations to airports. “Regulation does not create healthy economic environments. If the airport is asked to provide free or subsidized access to piston operators, who’s paying the bill? Is it the local community with higher tax rates? Is it the other businesses on the airport like MROs and flight schools? It could be a dangerous precedent for AOPA to create a marketing campaign to energize their membership without doing a deep analysis of how it could impact all the segments of aviation in a very, very negative way.” Read the article.

NATA and Aviation Coalition Continue to Advocate for Maintenance Workforce Development
|
|
NATA and a broad coalition of aviation representatives continue to make the case on Capitol Hill on the importance of attracting and training the next generation of technical workers through aviation workforce legislation. Last month, NATA, along with 16 other organizations, sent a letter supporting legislation, S. 2506, to establish an Aviation Maintenance Workforce Development Pilot Program. The bipartisan legislation will “help ensure our member organizations have the technical professionals they need to grow, compete globally, and, most importantly, continue to ensure the safety of civil aviation aircraft,” according to the letter. In a press statement, NATA President Marty Hiller noted that this legislation “brings together the aviation maintenance industry to encourage new opportunities through innovation and provides resources to inspire the next generation of aviation maintenance technicians.” NATA will continue to advocate for the aviation maintenance community and encourage Members of Congress to support this important legislation.

NATA Member Safety 1st Participants Dominate 2018 AIN FBO Survey Worldwide Results
|
|
AIN has been conducting surveys for nearly four decades to ask about FBO service and report on the results. FBOs are rated in five categories: line service, passenger amenities, pilot amenities, facilities and customer service representatives.
As in prior years, the 2018 Worldwide Results were dominated by NATA member Safety 1st participants, with 10 of the 14 FBOs in the top 5% currently Safety 1st Qualified.

In April’s FAA Safety Briefing, the GAJSC has determined that “smart cockpit technology” in the form of automated checklists for normal and emergency operations, predictive aircraft performance, and performance monitoring, might reduce the number of system/component failure general aviation accidents.

April 15 Deadline Approaching | NATA’s 2018 Compensation Survey

The association encourages your participation in NATA’s 2018 Compensation Survey. All information will be kept strictly confidential and cannot be tied back to the respondent or reporting location by anyone (including NATA), and will be reported only in aggregate with other responses. The survey will provide valuable information that NATA members can use to ensure compensation and benefits are competitive with others in the industry.
The results of the report are only as good as the quality of the data submitted and the number of companies that respond, we ask all members to please participate in the survey so that NATA can provide the best data results possible. San Bernardino International Airport Authority (SBD) recently announced Nikolas Persson as their new Airport Manager. Persson will oversee rapid growth in airfield activity where he will be responsible for organizing and overseeing airside and landside operations. Northern Colorado Regional Airport Wins Multiple International Awards
|

Last month, the Northern Colorado Regional Airport hosted Fly WOAW, an event promoting women of all ages in aviation, held in conjunction with International Women’s Day. Over 1,700 women and girls experienced their first flight with pilots from the area and surrounding states at this event. The Colorado Airport won iWOAW International honors with the most flights and participants during the week. Northern Colorado Regional Airport was awarded the honor of “Most Female Friendly Airport Worldwide” and set a new global record for most first flights given in one week. The Jet Center was also the host to displays from CDOT Aviation Division, Aims Community College, The Air Force Academy, Angel Flight, The Flying School, Leading Edge Flight Training, Civil Air Patrol, MCR EMS Helicopter, Whirly-Girls and the Forest Service giving those in attendance the opportunity to speak about training and careers in the local aviation community.
