NATA Releases Urban Air Mobility Whitepaper
|
|
Last Friday, the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) released a whitepaper titled “Urban Air Mobility: Considerations for Vertiport Operation.” The whitepaper reviews the applicability of existing federal regulations and industry standards to specific aspects of urban air mobility (UAM), as well as some security and certification related considerations for Part 135 on-demand air charter operators. UAM is envisioned as on-demand air transportation in core urban areas and residential suburban destinations using electric-powered, vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
“This whitepaper illuminates the lack of specific regulations in areas that will give UAM companies a lot of opportunities to define how their operations can look in the future, including ground handling and passenger facilitation. Those unregulated areas also happen to be many of NATA members’ key lines of business and expertise. As the singular trade association representing existing aviation service providers, NATA stands ready to work with the UAM industry to share our experiences and methods, as well as develop synergistic connections between UAM companies and our members,” noted NATA President Gary Dempsey.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Session to Discuss Industry Steps to Address this Risk to Safety

During the 2019 NATA Annual Meeting and Aviation Business Conference, we will analyze top challenges and opportunities impacting the business aviation community. Attendees will hear from NATA subject matter experts, FAA personnel, Part 135/91 operators, and other GA leaders.

On Wednesday, June 19, NATA will dedicate a session to the issue of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) contamination of jet fuel. This issue has emerged as one of the leading threats to safety in our industry with three confirmed incidents leading to in-flight shutdowns of aircraft engines. NATA, FAA, and other industry stakeholders are taking proactive steps to address this threat. This session will provide an overview of the threat, a review of actions taken to date, and an opportunity to get your questions answered about DEF contamination.

NATA is providing an app for all attendees of the Aviation Business Conference and Annual Meeting. This app will help attendees better navigate through the conference. Help the FAA Provide Accurate Information on Aviation Activity and Safety

The 40th annual 2018 General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey (GA Survey) – is nearing the end of the data collection period! Aircraft operators were recently sent the last paper mail survey that will be sent this year. Survey responses will be accepted until mid-July, although the FAA strongly prefers that aircraft operators fill out the survey as soon as possible.

Aberdeen Flying Service Expands its Footprint with New Hangar
|

Aberdeen Flying Service, a full-service FBO with charter service, aircraft maintenance, and flight training operating out of Aberdeen, SD, is pleased to announce the opening of its newly-constructed hangar. The hangar is 125-feet by 150-feet and plans to house many private corporate jets, transient aircraft, as well as the Avera Health Careflight helicopters. The hangar door measures 23’ 6" in height and is a constructed of 6 bottom sliding, top-guided portions. “We are honored to house the Avera team and offer access and around-the-clock resources. Aberdeen is fortunate to have Avera St. Luke’s in town and able to partner with Sioux Falls to serve the region. Aberdeen Flying Service celebrated their 73rd Anniversary in business this past May. Cutter Aviation Expands Piper Aircraft Sales Territory to Arizona and New Mexico

On May 23, Cutter Aviation announced the expansion of its Piper Aircraft sales territory to include the states of Arizona and New Mexico. Continuing a relationship that spans for more than two decades, first as a Sales and Service Center for Piper Aircraft in Texas and later in Southern California and Hawaii, Cutter Aviation now provides experienced sales and maintenance in New Mexico, where the company was founded, and Arizona, home of Cutter Aviation’s corporate headquarters. “We are very proud and excited to be able to represent the great Piper line of products in the states of Arizona and New Mexico,” said Will Cutter, President and CEO of Cutter Aviation. “Our longstanding relationship and experience with Piper Aircraft will bring great benefits to existing and new aircraft owners in this region,” Mr. Cutter added. Gemini Adds Aircraft, Avionics to MRO Approvals

Gemini Air Group is increasing its Part 145 repair station capabilities with the addition of approved aircraft models and avionics and instrument ratings. Along with its Cessna Citation, Hawker, and Turbo Commander authorizations, Gemini Air Group is now approved for Cessna Caravan and Conquest 441, Cirrus aircraft, and related engines. “Our expansion continues to move forward based on the need for quality support in our region,” said Gemini Air Group general manager Greg Laabs. “We continue to hire skilled technicians who will provide our customers with the best possible maintenance visit. The addition of Lance will enhance our capabilities and ensure our customers' avionics needs are met.” Read more.

Carlisle Air Joins the ACSF, Enrolls in ASAP
|

The Carlisle Air Corporation is the newest aviation company to join the Air Charter Safety Foundation’s (ACSF) expanding membership. The Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based firm, which offers aircraft charter, acquisitions, sales, and management, will also participate in the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), created in cooperation between the ACSF and the Federal Aviation Administration. Along with more than 200 other member companies, Carlisle Air supports the ACSF’s vision to advance and enable the highest levels of safety in personal and business aviation through the promotion and facilitation of risk management programs. Carlisle’s Vice President of Operations, Brendan Tozer, said of his company’s recent membership, “We strive to be one of the safest charter operators in the industry, and we see our membership in ACSF as a means to help us accomplish that goal.”
