NATA Committee on Urban Air Mobility
NATA has formed a committee focused on the rise of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and its integration into business aviation, and we are looking for members who are interested in becoming involved. UAM is envisioned as the incorporation of on-demand vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft into urban and suburban areas for transportation and delivery. It has the potential to provide expanded connectivity and positively increase the impact and importance of the aviation business industry. This topic is of incredible importance to NATA as we look to future innovations and promote safe and successful aviation business. NATA aims to be a conduit between future operators, ground handlers, and regulators in UAM.
The Committee’s first meeting will be held in mid-November. If you would like to join the UAM Committee, or are interested in getting involved with any of our other industry committees, please reach out to NATA Vice President Ryan Waguespack at ryanw@nata.aero.

The FAA recently began collecting public comments in preparation for requesting formal government approval from the Office of Management and Budget to collect data from operators using the Service Availability Prediction Tool (SAPT). The information collected is used to assist operators in complying with the regulatory requirements for ADS-B Out operations. SAPT is a web-based product intended to allow operators to evaluate a specific route of flight to ensure sufficient ADS-B coverage, as well as to provide operators a means to request authorization to operate in the event of reduced coverage.
The FAA has extensive information on SAPT that can be found at https://sapt.faa.gov. Operators should review FAR 91.225 and 91.227 to ensure familiarity with the ADS-B Out requirements that will be in effect as of Jan 1, 2020.

Textron Aviation Wins $11.8 Million Award for NOAA Aircraft
Textron Aviation has won an $11.8 million award to supply a new Beechcraft King Air 350CER turboprop aircraft to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The 350CER variant will be built in Wichita and is expected to enter service in late spring 2021. According to a press release from NOAA, plans call for the turboprop to be outfitted with equipment to measure data for forecasts related to flooding, river levels, and water supply. It will also be capable of coastal mapping and aerial surveys following storms. “Observations from the high-altitude Gulfstream jet will greatly enhance NOAA’s predictive capabilities for hurricane track and intensification, while the King Air turboprop will provide essential data for many missions, including planning and recovery efforts for coastal and inland flooding,” says Neil Jacobs, acting administrator of NOAA. Avfuel to Demonstrate Viability of Sustainable Aviation Fuel at Jackson Hole Aviation
In an effort to further business aviation’s carbon neutrality goals, Avfuel will make sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) available to operators fueling at Jackson Hole Aviation on September 3 and 4. For the event, Avfuel will supply 7,300 gallons of SAF to the FBO to fuel operators flying in and out of the airfield during the demonstration days. “We’re committed to raising awareness on the viability of sustainable aviation fuel,” said Keith Sawyer, manager of alternative fuels for Avfuel. “Events like these show that the product exists, it is safe, it is simply jet fuel, and it provides a great benefit to our environment. By raising awareness, we’re hoping to garner commitments from more operators to use SAF and present those commitments to producers, in essence saying: ‘Here are our customers. The demand is there. We simply need the supply.’” Read more.
