2020 Summit Aimed at Growing Business Aviation Use of Sustainable Fuels

Last week at NBAA's Las Vegas convention, the aviation business industry’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Coalition announced the creation of a summit, to be held in March 2020 in Washington, DC, aimed at accelerating the availability and use of SAF.

NATA COO and SAF Coalition Steering Committee Chairman Tim Obitts stated, “NATA is constantly hearing from our members about their desire for the use of SAF. The aviation business community is at the forefront in taking proactive measures towards building a sustainable future. This summit is a continuation of the SAF Coalition’s aim to educate the industry and wider public about the quality and safety of SAF, as we seek its widespread adoption.”

In conjunction with the summit announcement, the SAF Coalition released a new, online capability for people in the industry to pledge their support for the fuels. The pledge is available at www.futureofsustainablefuel.com, an industry website sponsored by the SAF Coalition. Read more.

NATA Programs Assist with Pilot Retention

Did you know that NATA offers three Programs tailored for air charter businesses to help assist with pilot acquisition and retention?

   -  Loss of License Insurance Program further protects your pilots — a crucial advantage in the current challenging environment for pilot staffing and retention. All participants are treated as one entity through the NATA plan, allowing for an easy underwriting experience and premium reductions created by the larger buying pool.
   -  The NATA FAA Medical Certification Services benefit program is available to all Part 135 air carriers and their pilots, as well as Part 91 corporate flight departments and their pilots, for a budget-friendly flat, per-pilot monthly fee. NATA members are eligible for a significant additional discount.
   -  NATA-Med powered by AirDocs is an exclusive program that improves operational safety and inflight assistance - 24/7. NATA-Med reduces liability by giving pilots inflight access to medical personnel. In addition, the service helps avoid costly and unnecessary flight diversions and coordinates ground assets post flight. Program assists before, during, and after flights.

Signature to Launch New Pricing Transparency Tool

Signature Flight Support is looking toward the future with new approaches to its customer offerings, including a Trip Estimator Tool for pilots and schedulers conducting pre-flight planning. Scheduled to launch in early 2020, the new tool will deliver retail fuel pricing, along with handling and infrastructure fees, allowing users to review the estimated costs of their trip before they take off. “[Customers] enter their aircraft tail number, their destination, the date that they are planning to fly – up to seven days in advance – and we return the pricing information,” said Matthew Carroll, the service provider chain’s Senior VP of Marketing. “We know this is something that many of our customers have been asking for and I think we're probably going to be one of the first to deliver something like this.” Read more.

Sheltair Offers Virtual Hangar Experience

In preparation for the opening of its new hangar complex at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (FXE), Florida-based Sheltair provided a virtual reality tour of the facility at the airport’s booth in Las Vegas. Missing only “the smell of jet fuel and Florida ocean breezes,” the tour showed it all, from the guest receiving area, to the state-of-the-art hangars, to the office space that can support tenant operations. “This virtual walkthrough allows us to offer convention visitors one of the best takeaways you can offer: precious time,” said Todd Anderson, the company’s VP of Real Estate and Development, adding it gives potential tenants an “on-site” experience without having to be onsite. “Sheltair offers the largest mix of hangars and airside commercial office space at FXE, one of the busiest general aviation destinations in the nation.” Read more
