NATA Applauds Approval of New SAF Pathway
|
|
NATA joins the industry in applauding the approval of a new
sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) pathway, published on January 29th by ASTM
International, one of the largest standards-development organizations in the
world, with support from the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative®
(CAAFI). The new annex to the SAF specification, D7566, establishes criteria
for the production and use of what is referred to as catalytic hydrothermolysis
jet fuel (CHJ), a type of synthetic kerosene. The standard provides that CHJ
fuel, which was developed by Applied Research Associates (ARA), may be blended
at up to 50 percent by volume with conventional jet fuel. It represents the
sixth approved pathway for the production of SAF.
For more information about the SAF Coalition’s work, please visit
our website, www.futureofsustainablefuel.com. The updated standard specification, ASTM D7566-19b, is available
for purchase on ASTM International’s website.

Banyan
Air Service Welcomed Delivery of Avfuel SAF
|
|
Avfuel
delivered 7,000 gallons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Banyan Air
Service (KFXE) in Fort Lauderdale, FL on January 30. The fuel accounts for a
two metric ton reduction on lifecycle CO2 emissions, furthering
sustainability goals for Banyan Air Service and Avfuel.
“We’re thankful
to work with such a longstanding partner on sustainability initiatives,” said
Joel Hirst, Vice President of Sales for Avfuel. “The Banyan team provides
exceptional services and we’re proud to help them provide this exclusive
environmentally-friendly product to its customers to once again demonstrate
that aircraft can safely fly with SAF. The SAF supply chain is developing
rapidly as the industry invests in production facilities to bring
commercially-scaled SAF volumes to market, which will be pivotal to business
aviation obtaining its carbon emission goals.” “Avfuel’s
dedication to business aviation and its commitment to protect our environment
is outstanding,” said Don Campion, President of Banyan Air Service. “It is an
honor to be among the first FBOs to supply operators with Avfuel’s sustainable
aviation fuel and a privilege to be associated with an innovative company to
raise awareness and encourage further production of this alternative fuel.”

Naples Airport Authority Warns Readers to Avoid
Illegal Charter Activity
|
|
The Naples Airport Authority devoted a page in their
January-February 2020 newsletter to highlight steps to avoid illegal charter
activity. Naples Airport
Authority points out that, “legitimate air charter operators that are
licensed by the FAA require a higher level of FAA pilot training and
certification, aircraft maintenance procedures, and operation safety rules.
Illegal air charters carry serious risks to public safety, as they may not meet
higher standards required of Part 135 air charter operators.” Click here to
view more, visit www.avoidillegalcharter.com
for additional resources, and let us know how you are spreading the message at schambers@nata.aero.
