NATA to Work with Trump Administration and Congress on Pro-Aviation Business Agenda
In response to Tuesday’s election results, NATA President Marty Hiller reiterated the importance of aviation stakeholders, the new Administration and Congress working in concert to positively impact the general aviation community. "Aviation businesses congratulate President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect Pence and their team. We are pleased to have a person in the nation's highest office who appreciates the contribution of business aircraft to the nation's economy.” Under the new Administration’s regulatory and tax reform agenda, Hiller stated, there are many opportunities to resolve issues important to aviation businesses, including clarifying that federal excise taxes should not be applied to aircraft management services as well as ensuring that aviation taxes are deposited into the aviation trust fund. “NATA and its members look forward to meeting with the transition team to discuss these and other issues that we can work on together." |

Successful Roundtable Covers Pressing Aviation Business Issues, Including ADS-B Equipage
On Thursday, senior executives of the NATA membership gathered in Washington, D.C., for the association’s annual Aviation Business Roundtable. Members discussed issues confronting the aviation business sector with their peers and leading aviation policymakers, industry analysts and political pundits. The Roundtable kicked off with a breakfast keynote address by FAA Administrator Michael Huerta. The Administrator’s remarks were very well received and covered a wide-range of issues important to aviation businesses including the agency’s initiatives on regulatory consistency, its new compliance philosophy and ADS-B equipage. Huerta noted that while great strides in equipage are occurring, a key part of the transformation of air traffic control to satellite based navigation is dependent upon this new technology. He urged users to schedule time for the upgrade as some avionics shops are now booked several years in advance. |

IFBOA Workers Compensation Insurance Program Announces Good Experience Return of 27.5%
Last week the Independent Fixed Base Operators Association (IFBOA) and QBE Aviation of QBE Holdings (QBE) announced the IFBOA Workers Compensation Safety Group Program’s inaugural year, 2011, closed with a final Good Experience Return (GER) of 27.5%. “The centerpiece of our program is the belief that safety performance should be rewarded by substantial savings. Clearly, a 2011 GER of 27.5 percent demonstrates the IFBOA membership’s ongoing commitment to operating businesses that place safety as their highest responsibility,"stated Tim Obitts, Executive Director of IFBOA. With over 700 current participants, the Program continues to grow – thanks in part to the strategic alliance between IFBOA and the National Air Transportation Association (NATA). The IFBOA Workers Compensation Safety Group Program is open to NATA’s membership and NATA members in good standing may ask their broker for a quote from QBE for IFBOA’s Program in addition to their organization’s current insurance program. NATA Submits DHS Regulatory Review Comments
Last week, NATA submitted comments in response to the Department of Homeland Security’s triennial review of regulations to be considered candidates for improvement, streamlining or repeal. The association's comments included the need for “CBP to initiate a process to define charter operators in a manner consistent with FAA regulations and separate from airlines, re-evaluate the regulations, particularly those of 19 CFR 122, and re-assign these operations to the rules applicable to private operations. We note that CBP already defines ‘private aircraft’ and ‘scheduled airline’ in 19 CFR 122.1,” stated Bill Deere, NATA Executive Vice President of Government & External Affairs. Deere added, “The growth of technology to enable near instantaneous communications to nearly every location should be leveraged to eliminate inconsistencies that result in confusion, additional burdens and higher costs for all parties.” To view NATA’s table highlighting several key regulatory areas that the association supports for streamlining, revision and/or elimination, please click here. |
