Shannon Chambers Named Vice President of Marketing and Communications
|
|
Last week, NATA announced the promotion of Shannon Chambers to Vice President of Marketing and Communications. Chambers will lead NATA's strategic and creative flow of marketing, initiatives, and member communications.
"I've witnessed Shannon's drive and enthusiasm for our industry in her time at NATA. Her keen understanding of the Association environment and NATA's members are real assets to the leadership team," stated NATA President Gary Dempsey.
Chambers has served NATA members for the past 12 years in varying roles spanning marketing, membership, communications, and public relations. While at NATA, Chambers has worked to establish www.nata.aero as the members' primary resource for news, services, and training. She has also been responsible for launching the Association's social media presence, the development of the Aviation Business Journal, and assisting in the successful promotion of industry-standard programs such as the Safety 1st Training Center and its predecessor, the NATA Safety 1st Professional Line Service Training (PLST Online). NATA's new Member Monday series highlights the diverse businesses that make up the Association's membership to show the positive impacts they have on their communities, the aviation business industry, and the world at large. This week's profile is on Stevens Aerospace and Defense Systems. Look for future member Mondays profiles on our website.
Stevens has been working with NATA since the early 1990s, joining other MRO and FBO businesses in supporting business aviation by utilizing NATA's experience and recognition among regulatory agencies in Washington, D.C. In addition to being members, Stevens is an active participant on NATA's Maintenance Committee and Stevens' President, Christian Sasfai, served on NATA's Board of Directors from June 2016-June 2019. Stevens provides civilian MRO services for Beechcraft,l Challenger, Cessna, Embraer, Global Express, Gulfstream, Falcon, Learjet, Piaggio, and Piatus aircraft. They are a U.S. and foreign government prime service provider of depot maintenance, refurbishment, and modifications for military versions of general aviation airframes. Stevens operates facilities in Greenville, SC (GYH), Dayton, OH (DAY), Nashville, TN (BNA), and Macon, GA (MCN), and also operates a 24/7 AOG-MRT Division.

The Association has announced the establishment of its Air Charter Broker Committee. NATA's Air Charter Broker Committee is dedicated to upholding the integrity of the air charter broker community, establishing standards, developing and implementing industry best practices, and providing value to business aviation users.
"NATA's Air Charter Broker Committee is comprised of a group of charter brokers who are interested in advancing the industry and Association's goal of elevating the industry through transparency, ethical standards, safety, and continuous improvement," stated NATA Vice President Ryan Waguespack.
The Committee will identify key issues, provide guidance on addressing those issues, and assist NATA in our educational efforts.
"The Association, through its Illegal Charter Task Force, is actively providing resources to charter brokers and other members of the air charter community to assist them in avoiding illegal charter. We are looking forward to working with these dedicated individuals to enhance and expand the resources available to brokers and their clients," added Waguespack. Read more.

NATA Members Mobilize for Hurricane Dorian Relief Efforts
|
|
|
The Association recognized the aviation business community for its dedication and tireless efforts in providing relief to those impacted by Hurricane Dorian.
"NATA would like to thank our members for their incredible response to the destruction wreaked by Hurricane Dorian. As we see time and time again, many have been mobilizing within their communities to collect supplies and prepare support for when it will be safe enough to go into affected areas to provide relief. My heart goes out to the people of the Bahamas—a place that is dear to me-and all those in the path of Hurricane Dorian. The aviation business community's overwhelming generosity and selfless dedication to service in times of need is inspiring, and we are pleased to serve as a resource for connecting our members with those in need," said NATA Chief Operations Officer Timothy Obitts.

NATA Participates in NTSB Roundtable on Alaska Part 135 Operations
|

Last Friday, NATA Vice President Ryan Waguespack participated in a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) roundtable hosted in Anchorage, AK. The roundtable was led by NTSB Chairman Robert Sumwalt and brought together Alaska-based commercial operators, safety experts, aviation industry associations, FAA officials, and Alaska native tribal leaders in an attempt to delve into ways to bolster safety of Part 135 operations conducted in the region.
"The number of Part 135 fatal accidents in Alaska is troubling," Sumwalt said. "If the FAA and industry do not address these safety gaps, the Part 135 accident rate in Alaska is unlikely to budge. The objective of this roundtable is to reduce that rate by focusing on the proven ways to make these types of flights safer." Read more here.

Ensuring Compliance with Filter Monitor Requirements
|

In late 2017, it was announced that super absorbent polymer (SAP) filter monitor elements would be phased out of aviation fuel filtration by December 31, 2020. In response, Airlines for America (A4A) published Bulletin 2018.1, which included several action items for facilities that operate to the ATA 103 standard (and NATA recommends for all facilities) that utilize filter monitor elements in aviation fuel systems. The compliance deadlines for the actions items in Bulletin 2018.1 have all passed and the following should now be in place:
- All 2-inch diameter filter monitors upgraded to EI 1583 7th edition.
- All 6-inch diameter out-to-in filter monitors upgraded to EI 1583 7th edition.

- All 6-inch diameter in-to-out filter monitors converted back to EI 1581 Filter Water Separators.
- Operating with 15psi maximum filter monitor differential pressure.
- Nozzle screen cleaning incorporated into monthly inspections for refueling equipment fitted with filter monitors. (see Bulletin 2018.1 for recommended procedures)
- Differential pressure limiting device set points adjusted to 15psi.

NATA Remembers Franz Bowe of Jet Aviation Nassau

NATA was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Franz Bowe, Sales and Operations Manager for Jet Aviation Nassau. "Franz developed long-lasting connections with worldwide customers, especially first-time visitors to the Islands," stated NATA President Gary Dempsey. "Franz was known for his passion for aviation and ability to foster extraordinary customer loyalty. A friend to countless customers and industry colleagues, he will be greatly missed."

On October 1-2, the NATA Ground Handling Safety Symposium (GHSS) will return to the NTSB Training Center in Northern Virginia for its third year. Rosanvallon Steps Down as Falcon Jet Head, Replaced by Betbeze

Jean Rosanvallon has stepped down as the CEO of Dassault Falcon Jet (DFJ), the US operating arm of Dassault Aviation. His career spanned 44 years with Dassault, and 23 years as the CEO of DFJ. "Rosanvallon has built a record of success for the Falcon Jet business and our industry," said Eric Trappier, Chairman & CEO, Dassault Aviation. "We are pleased we can continue tapping into the wealth of business jet market experience he has accumulated to help improve and expand the Falcon line in the future." Jackson Hole Airport Celebrated $2.5M Stormwater Filtration System Investment

Jackson Hole Airport Board members and Airport administration welcomed leaders from across Wyoming and the public to take part in a ribbon cutting for their recently completed state-of-the-art stormwater filtration system last week. "It is exciting to have this airport, which is such a critical part of Wyoming's economy, but also such a critically important part of Jackson Hole and its National Parks take a real leadership role in making sure they did the responsible thing going forward," said Governor Mark Gordon. "May this lead the way in something that is going to be incredibly important for aviation in the future." Read more.
