NATA Staff Participate in 2020 UAA Aviation
Policy Seminar
|
|
Last week, NATA’s VP of
Government & Public Affairs, Jonathon Freye, and Director of Regulatory
Affairs, Megan Eisenstein, met with students attending the University Aviation
Association’s (UAA) annual Aviation Policy Seminar in Washington, DC. NATA
hosted the group of 10 students at their headquarters for a discussion on
current legislative and regulatory issues impacting NATA’s membership,
including illegal charter operations, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) jet fuel
contamination, and hangar fire foam suppression systems. The students also
gained a greater understanding of how the Association represents the business
interests of general aviation service companies on legislative and regulatory
matters at the federal, state, and local levels, as well as some of the other
products and services it provides.
“It was a pleasure speaking with
this group of aviation students and listening to their interests and
perspectives on current industry matters. Their engagement and eagerness to
join the industry reflect positively on the future of our industry’s
workforce,” stated NATA’s Megan Eisenstein.

NATA Remembers Two of Our Industry’s
Writing/Publishing Legends
|
|
NATA honors the life
of two aviation literary giants: Colonel Walter Boyne and Murray Q. Smith. Col. Walter Boyne,
bomber pilot and aviation writer, has written more than 1,000 articles, 44
non-fiction books, and seven novels, all focused-on aviation, with several books
appearing on the NYTimes Bestseller List. He also co-founded “Wingspan – the
Air & Space Channel.”
“It’s rare to
encounter someone with as much brilliance, kindness, and dedication as Walter
Boyne. To get the chance to work with him was a distinct honor that I will
never forget. Walter and his vast accomplishments left an enduring mark on
aviation for generations to come,” stated NATA Vice President of Marketing and
Communications Shannon Chambers.
“Over the past
several weeks, there has been an outpouring of story after story of how Murray
Smith gave so many their start in not only writing, but also aviation or
perhaps a combination of both. Always the mentor, Murray was someone you just
wanted to be around to benefit from his wisdom and words of encouragement,”
stated Chambers.
Murray Smith, who made his mark on aviation journalism steering the Professional Pilot magazine for more than five decades. Smith’s publication became known for bringing in young talent who would later become leading editors in aviation journalism.
“Walter and Murray worked so passionately for so long because they cared
so deeply for what they did and who they did it for. Both were highly gifted
storytellers who captured the narrative of aviation for all time and will be
greatly missed,” added Chambers.
