Business Aviation’s Sustainability Commitment
Highlighted At 2020 World Economic Forum
|
|
NATA, as part of a global coalition focused on business aviation sustainability, welcomed two new carbon-reduction initiatives for Davos-bound flights at this year’s World Economic Forum (WEF), starting Jan. 21, 2020, in Davos, Switzerland. The Business Aviation Coalition for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF Coalition), in conjunction with the World Economic Forum and Zurich Airport, worked to make SAF available for aircraft departing the airport. A supply of SAF was also made available at Stockholm Arlanda Airport for those traveling to the WEF.
At an event held today at Zurich Airport to demonstrate the fuels’ viability, organizers thanked officials with WEF and the airport for their collaboration with industry stakeholders in support of the demonstration.
Additionally, under a payment-transfer initiative known as “book-and-claim,” operators flying to Davos are, for the first time, able to purchase SAF supplies, even at airports where SAF is not available. The initiative will be in place at New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport, Laurence G. Hanscom Field in Bedford, Mass., and Dulles International Airport, outside Washington, DC. Leaders with the coalition stakeholder groups applauded the initiatives, which were made possible through the efforts of Air BP, Jet Aviation, Neste, World Energy, and World Fuels. Read more.

FAA’s January Installment of Fly Safe:
Addressing GA Safety
|
|
This month’s installment of the FAA’s Fly
Safe: Addressing GA Safety series
focuses on managing distractions in flight. Interruptions and distractions may
be brief, but they can cause you to lose focus, which could lead to
catastrophic errors. Interruptions and distractions break your train of
thought, but at times can convey information that is critical for safe flight.
It is important to learn how to safely manage the
inflow of competing information. Examples of interruptions/distractions include
air traffic control communications or alerts, head-down work, or having to deal
with an unexpected situation. If not managed properly, distractions can set a
deadly chain of events in motion.
The key to reducing the risk is
prioritization: Aviate, navigate, communicate, and manage. And lastly, be sure
to fly regularly with a flight instructor who will challenge you to review what
you know, explore new horizons, and to always do your best.
The Federal Aviation
Administration and the general aviation community’s national #FlySafe campaign
helps educate GA pilots about safety, including loss of control, powerplant
failure, and controlled flight into terrain.

BP’s Airfield Automation Goes Live in Brazil’s São Paulo State
|
|
Air BP has completed the roll out
of its innovative Airfield Automation digital technology across São Paulo
state, Brazil. It is estimated that around 150 of Air BP’s airport and operator
customers will benefit from the new technology which aims to enhance safety,
reliability and compliance in airport fueling operations. This includes many
general aviation customers for whom the risk of misfuelling is considered
greatest. Air BP customer, Marco Antônio Beolchi Adami, Captain at Rio Bonito
Comunicação, Helicidade São Paulo said, “Since we started using Air BP’s
Airfield Automation platform in August, the fueling process has become much
more streamlined. It is faster and more efficient. Refueling and turnaround
times can be tight when there are two flights close to each other, and the
pilot has a short time to land, refuel, do the post-flight and pre-flight
checks and then has to take off immediately.” Read more.
