Rogers Named Chairman Of Appropriations Committee

Representative Harold Rogers (R-KY), a 36-year member of the United States House of Representatives, was selected yesterday by the Republican steering committee as the new chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, the most powerful committee in Congress. Congressman Rogers beat out fellow committee veteran and former chairman Jerry Lewis (R-CA) and 10-year veteran Jack Kingston (R-GA).

Congressman Rogers represents rural southeastern Kentucky’s 5th District. He was elected to his 16th term in November and has been a member of the appropriations panel since 1983. Rogers has served on eight subcommittees and has chaired both the Transportation and Homeland Security Subcommittees. Rogers and fellow Republicans instituted a moratorium on earmarks for the next two years and have pledged to reduce spending and knock down the deficit.

“I am humbled and thrilled with the steering committee's decision, and look forward to the honor and responsibility of leading the Appropriations Committee next year,” Rogers said in a statement. “There is no doubt that we have a tough and demanding chore ahead of us. The nation is in a fiscal crisis, and hard decisions are coming.”

Mica Selected Chairman Of Transportation And Infrastructure Committee

U.S. Representative John L. Mica (R-FL) was chosen by the House Republican Conference yesterday to serve as chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure in the 112th Congress.

The Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure has broad jurisdiction over the nation’s highways, aviation system, transit, rail transportation, pipelines, the Coast Guard, maritime transportation, water resources, economic development, public buildings, and emergency management.

In the previous two congresses, Mica served as the committee’s Republican leader. Prior to that, from 2000 to 2006, he was the chairman of the Subcommittee on Aviation, during which time he authored the last multi-year FAA authorization to be signed into law. Mica has been a member of the committee since his election to Congress in 1992.

Mica said in a statement, “The Committee must pass stalled major surface transportation, aviation, and water resources bills, and I will do so as soon as possible in a manner that protects the taxpayers and creates jobs. It is critical that Congress jumpstarts transportation projects to rebuild our nation’s crumbling infrastructure and get people working.”

NATA E-Learn Webinar Series - Part 135 Rest & Duty - What Do The Regulations Really Require?

Many Part 135 operators have questions about how to comply with pilot duty and rest regulations. There are literally dozens of legal interpretations, FAA notices and even court rulings that impact how compliance with the rules is to be achieved.

This special webinar, Part 135 Rest & Duty -What Do The Regulations Really Require?, will give on-demand air charter operators in-depth information on how the FAA requires rest to be provided and what constitutes a "legal" rest period.

To ensure that operators are able to ask their questions about this sensitive regulatory issue freely, only employees of Part 135 on-demand operators will be permitted to participate.

Who Should Attend:

Director of Operations
