Congressman Rogers represents rural southeastern Kentucky’s 5th District. He was elected to his 16th term in November and has been a member of the appropriations panel since 1983. Rogers has served on eight subcommittees and has chaired both the Transportation and Homeland Security Subcommittees. Rogers and fellow Republicans instituted a moratorium on earmarks for the next two years and have pledged to reduce spending and knock down the deficit.

“I am humbled and thrilled with the steering committee's decision, and look forward to the honor and responsibility of leading the Appropriations Committee next year,” Rogers said in a statement. “There is no doubt that we have a tough and demanding chore ahead of us. The nation is in a fiscal crisis, and hard decisions are coming.”

The Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure has broad jurisdiction over the nation’s highways, aviation system, transit, rail transportation, pipelines, the Coast Guard, maritime transportation, water resources, economic development, public buildings, and emergency management.

In the previous two congresses, Mica served as the committee’s Republican leader. Prior to that, from 2000 to 2006, he was the chairman of the Subcommittee on Aviation, during which time he authored the last multi-year FAA authorization to be signed into law. Mica has been a member of the committee since his election to Congress in 1992.

Mica said in a statement, “The Committee must pass stalled major surface transportation, aviation, and water resources bills, and I will do so as soon as possible in a manner that protects the taxpayers and creates jobs. It is critical that Congress jumpstarts transportation projects to rebuild our nation’s crumbling infrastructure and get people working.”

O’Dell, who has 21 years of experience in aviation, began his career as a flight instructor and flew for the U.S. Forest Service. He has held various positions over the years, such as flight department chief pilot, airline captain and check airman.

O’Dell joined Sun Air Jets in 2002 as director of operations. An active flight instructor and airline transport pilot, O’Dell has more than 12,300 total flying hours and is type-rated in multiple aircraft.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from California Coast University.
