NATA Welcomes New Senior Advisor
of Regulatory Affairs (Maintenance) and Thanks Carol Giles for Her Years of
Service

The Association would like to express its appreciation
for the years of partnership with Carol Giles and all the hard work and
dedication she has given to the Association. Carol has announced that she will
be stepping back from her role as Senior Advisor of Regulatory Affairs
(Maintenance) with the Association to focus more on other aspects of her
career. Carol has been a regular contributor to the Aviation Business Journal,
a speaker at NATA events, and the liaison for NATA’s Aircraft Maintenance and
Systems Technology (AMST) Committee. Simultaneously, NATA is pleased to announce a new partnership with Keith DeBerry, formerly the Academy Director for the FAA. Keith will be taking over Carol’s responsibilities as the Senior Advisor of Regulatory Affairs (Maintenance) and liaison for NATA’s AMST Committee. Read more. Jet Logistics, Inc.
(JLI) has been a government contractor for more than 10 years, conducting
various medical transports both domestically and internationally. For the last
two years, JLI has been part of a contract with the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services to provide support with medical transportation in times of
need. As part of this contract, JLI has been flying all of the Americans
affected by the coronavirus since their return to the U.S. Their flight crews
have attended rigorous training, and the procedures to protect the flight crew
and medical staff are extensive. W. Ashley Smith, Jr., President/Director of
Operations of Jet Logistics, has personally flown COVID-19 missions and has
some rare insight into the virus and best practices for dealing with it in a

NATA’s Airport Business
Committee Holds Winter Meeting in Dallas
|

|
On February 24th, NATA’s Airport Business Committee convened at TAC
Air’s facility at Dallas Love Field Airport. Guest speakers from ACA Aponix, NATA Compliance Services, and Willis Towers Watson briefed the committee on cyber security and cyber insurance related
issues impacting aviation businesses. The committee received an update on
proposed guidance changes to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
409 – Standard on Aircraft Hangars and the steps the Association is
taking to inform the industry on the effects of inadvertent hangar foam
discharges. NATA President & CEO Tim Obitts discussed the latest industry
developments on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and the upcoming SAF summit in
Washington, DC on March 24th. Committee member Ben Harrison (Cullman
Regional Airport) also provided an update on the Airport Sponsored FBO
Subcommittee and discussed the importance of emergency planning and

NATA's Acclaimed Ground Handling Safety Symposium (GHSS) Returns this August

NATA's Ground Handling Safety Symposium (GHSS) heads to the NTSB Training Center in Ashburn, VA on
August 18-19, 2020.
Join your colleagues and participate in knowledge-sharing, open-format discussions focused on understanding and providing solutions for the operational safety needs of FBOs and other GA ground handlers. The Symposium is intended for safety professionals, directors, line service managers, operations managers, flight departments, and more. Attendees will also have multiple opportunities to network with colleagues and industry experts.

2019 FAA GA Survey is Open
|

Technological advances in situational awareness have
dramatically reduced the number of GA Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT)
accidents. However, the General Aviation Joint Steering Committee (GAJSC) has
found that reliance on automation is a precursor to CFIT events. Awareness of
automation limitations and pilot proficiency in flying with and without
automation are key to safe flight operations. Please click here for details on safe operations. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) 42nd Annual General Aviation (GA) and Part 135 Activity Survey is open through July 10, 2020. This voluntary survey is distributed by mail to a representative sample of GA and on-demand Part 135 aircraft owners and operators. Survey participants may complete the survey online or by mail.
The survey is 4 pages long and takes about 10 to 30 minutes to complete. Individual responses are kept confidential to the extent permitted by law. Survey results will be posted on the public website by January 2021. CISA Risk Management of Coronavirus

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a CISA Insights document titled, “Risk Management for COVID-19” detailing steps to help executives think through physical, supply chain, and cybersecurity issues that may arise as a result of this ongoing public health concern. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), COVID-19 has been detected in locations across the world, including multiple areas throughout the United States. Obitts will be speaking at the National Aircraft Finance Association’s (NAFA)
49th Annual Conference at the Meritage Resort in Napa Valley, CA.
Obitts will speak on the “State of the Aviation Industry” panel on Thursday,
April 30 at 10:30am. The NAFA conference will cover relevant industry topics
such as state of aviation insurance, detecting fraud in aircraft transactions,

Changing
Your Operations Structure, Ownership, or Name?

should do is send an email or letter to the Federal Aviation Administration's
(FAA) Drug Abatement Division. The communication should include information
that answers certain questions about your drug program, such as coverage of
safety-sensitive employees and what will happen with employee testing

celebration of Women in Aviation International’s expanding Girls in Aviation
Day, WAI and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University are pleased to announce a
new, self-paced Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) tailored to learners ages
8-17. The free course leverages Embry-Riddle expertise and instructional design
to inspire the next generation of aviation professionals.“Partnering with
Embry-Riddle, a longtime WAI supporter, on this free online course for youth
interested in aviation is another tool to expand our reach of our annual
international Girls in Aviation Day all year round,” said Allison McKay, WAI
CEO. “Future aviation professionals will be inspired, and we are thrilled to
use technology to reach girls in every part of the world and encourage their

Peterson Awarded ND Aviation Mechanic of the Year
|

|
Erik
Peterson, Lead Maintenance Technician for Bismarck Aero Center, has recently
been awarded the ND Aviation Mechanic of the Year. The award was voted on by
the ND Professional Aviation Mechanics Association (NDPAMA) and awarded to
Peterson during the Hall of Fame Banquet at the annual Upper Midwest Aviation
Symposium in Minot, ND. He is the fifth aviation maintenance technician for
Bismarck Aero Center to win the award. “Erik has been a key piece of our success over the years,”
states Bismarck Aero Center CEO Jon Simmers. “He is an outstanding co-worker
and developed himself into a leader for our region’s aviation industry. I am
very proud of what he has been able to accomplish and happy that all his hard
work is being recognized.” Read more.
