Kansas Governor Proclaims September as Aviation Appreciation Month
On August 23, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback signed a proclamation declaring September 2013 as Aviation Appreciation Month. The proclamation commemorates aviation’s contributions to Kansas’ people and businesses as well as recognizes the state’s annual Kansas Aviation Expo which will take place September 26-27, 2013. Known as the “air capital of the world,” Kansas is home to 140 public-use airports which serve 7,449 pilots and are utilized by 3,547 general aviation aircraft. Annually, more than 282,000 visitors travel to Kansas on general aviation aircraft. Indiana Fuel Sales Tax Replaced By Fuel Excise Tax
Sales taxes on aviation gasoline and jet fuel in Indiana have been replaced by an aviation gasoline and jet fuel excise tax saving pilots hundreds of dollars, according to the Indiana Department of Revenue. The 10 cents-per-gallon excise tax, which went into effect on July 1, 2013, is collected by adding it to the selling price of the fuel, passing the tax along to consumers. Consumers are exempt from paying the tax if the fuel will be used in aircraft owned by the United States or its instrumentalities, the state of Indiana, the Indiana Air National Guard or commercial/freight carriers.
