nullImportance of Aviation Recognized in South Carolina

For the second year in a row, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley signed a proclamation declaring “South Carolina Aviation Week,” August 17-23, 2014. There are 61 general aviation airports in South Carolina that contribute more than $417 million in economic activity annually. “Aviation plays a vital role in the economy of South Carolina, providing many thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic activity,” the proclamation concludes. The South Carolina Aviation Association discusses on their website the importance of the proclamation and how businesses across the state can participate. NATA President and CEO Thomas L. Hendricks will speak on Friday at the first annual 2014 Cincinnati Business Aviation Symposium (CBAS2014). nullHouse GA Caucus Urges DOT to Expedite Review on Medical Certificates

Recently, thirty-two House General Aviation Caucus members signed onto a letter to DOT Secretary Anthony Foxx urging the department to finalize a review of the FAA’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) addressing third class medical certification reform. Caucus members asked that the DOT finish its review process within 30 days so the NPRM can be opened for public comment. Earlier in August, NATA joined other national aviation associations in signing a similar letter to DOT advocating fast action for medical reform.

nullGAMA General Aviation Jobs Rally to be Held in North Dakota

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) will hold a rally celebrating general aviation’s contributions to the economy on September 5th at 1 p.m. at the University of North Dakota (UND) Aerospace Flight Operations’ James C. Ray Hangar in Grand Forks, North Dakota. U.S. Senators John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp, U.S. Representative Kevin Cramer, and Lt. Governor Drew Wrigley will speak, as well as representatives from Appareo Systems, Cirrus Aircraft, and Piper Aircraft. nullFAA Introduces Electronic PIREP Submissions

The FAA recently published Information to Operators (InFO) 14011, announcing a new online Pilot Report (PIREP) submission tool located on the National Weather Service Aviation Weather Center "Aviation Digital Data" website. The tool will allow users to enter turbulence and icing PIREPs electronically. These PIREPs will be integrated into existing weather forecast processes to improve accuracy. Operators interested in participating must enroll with the FAA. Details regarding enrollment and PIREP submission may be found in the InFO.

nullUVair FBO Network Adds Three Sacramento Jet Center Locations

The UVair FBO Network announced that it has expanded its presence in North America with the addition of three new member FBOs, bringing the total number of FBOs in the network to 25. “As we take over the FBO operation at Sacramento’s Mather Field, we wanted to bring the premier FBO experience to the entire Sacramento aviation community, and the UVair FBO Network has demonstrated the ability to help its members do this,” said Scott Powell, owner of Sacramento Jet Center. Read more.

The Aviation Division of New Mexico State Department of Transportation recently presented the Safety Pin Award to Jessi Rowden, General Manager of Cutter Aviation, Albuquerque. The award was presented in appreciation for support of the State of New Mexico in their safety, training and informational meetings, classes and seminars, which are frequently hosted at Cutter Aviation.

nullParticipate in NATA Flag Pins for Veterans Project – NATA Welcomes Key Air to the Project

NATA is working with industry to raise charitable donations for organizations supporting America's veterans. NATA members are asked to participate by securing and displaying American-made flag pins in their operations with signage suggesting a donation of at least $1.00 per pin. The funds for this project will be collected periodically through NATA. The project will run through October 2014 culminating in a check presentation to the veterans organizations.
