 Aviation Business Conference Highlight – Relationships Between Airports and Aviation Businesses
NATA and AAAE will host a panel discussion at the 2015 Aviation Business Conference on the perspectives of airport management and tenants, particularly the opportunities and challenges associated with building airport relationships. NATA’s Aviation Business Conference takes place June 15-18 in Washington, D.C. Register by April 15th to receive the Early Bird Registration Discount.
NATA Offers Congress Its Views on Air Traffic Control Reform
Last week, NATA submitted testimony on its views regarding air traffic control reform in response to the House Aviation Subcommittee hearing entitled, “Options for FAA Air Traffic Control Reform.” The association expressed support for the injection of more private sector practices into the FAA but cautioned “it is important how any changes to the agency are managed in order to maintain a stable, safe and efficient system that protects access for all users of our system.” NATA's testimony also discussed the possibility that policymakers could eventually conclude the challenges to the agency cannot be addressed in its current construct and urged the Subcommittee in that instance “to be very deliberate in what comes next.” Noting the potential risks reform of the FAA’s management structure and funding could pose to the jobs and investment created by general aviation, NATA concluded the association cannot support “de facto 'leap of faith' proposals that would put general aviation’s fate in the hands of undefined management structures or leave unresolved its contribution to the system.”
FAA Notice N 8900.287 Cancelled, NATA Requests Member Feedback
The FAA recently issued, and then cancelled, Notice 8900.287 which affects cargo handling for both passenger and all-cargo operations for all Parts 91K, 121, 125, and 135 operators. The agency intends to revise the Notice and provide an opportunity for industry feedback prior to final issuance. Lawmakers Join Industry Call For Contract Tower Funding
Last week, 72 House members and 26 Senators joined together in bipartisan support of full and dedicated funding for the contract tower program in the FY2016 FAA budget. In letters to their chamber's respective Appropriations Committees, Representatives Goodlatte (R-VA) and Wilson (D-FL) and Senators Inhofe (R-OK) and Manchin (D-WV) pointed out the program's cost effective manner in providing an important economic service to small communities. This effort by lawmakers follows on a related effort by aviation stakeholders including NATA.
Effort to Reduce MRO "Death By Audits"
A long-standing conversation and concern among repair station operators is the sheer volume of audits endured by MROs. From FAA audits to air carrier audits and beyond, many repair stations quality departments find themselves over-staffed just to accommodate all of the audits. The FAA is working toward reducing "audits for the sake of auditing." As a result, policymakers have been studying the number and types of audits performed by FAA maintenance inspectors and begun to address the issue by initiating a MRO Audit and Data Sharing program.
NATA Congratulates American Aero FTW On Achieving IS-BAH Certificate of Registration
NATA congratulates American Aero FTW for achieving the first U.S.-issued International Standard for Business Aircraft Handling (IS-BAH) certificate of registration. IS-BAH, a global industry code of best practices, provides standardization to handlers and operators around the world. Introduced last year by IBAC and NATA, the IS-BAH follows the long established structure of the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) Program and incorporates the NATA Safety 1st Ground Audit Program. Kurt Edwards, Director General, IBAC, Terry Yeomans, IS-BAH Program Director, IBAC and Michael France, Director, Safety & Training, NATA, presented the official certificate of registration to American Aero FTW last week in San Antonio, TX. FAA Partners with NetJets on Implementing NextGen Technologies
NetJets Aviation, a Berkshire Hathaway company and the worldwide leader in private aviation, has announced that it has signed a five-year agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to implement NextGen projects that will lead to safer, more efficient air transportation. Read more.

Eagle Creek Aviation Services Agrees to Purchase Montgomery Aviation’s Three Indiana Locations
Eagle Creek Aviation Services CEO Matt Hagans and Montgomery Aviation President Dan Montgomery & Vice-President Andi Montgomery, have reached an initial understanding on terms for the purchase of Montgomery Aviation by Eagle Creek Aviation Services. The purchase transaction will include the fixed base operations (FBO) and maintenance facility at Indianapolis Executive Airport (TYQ), the FBO at the Frankfort/Clinton County Airport (FKR), and the FBO at the Grissom Aeroplex.
