FAA Aircraft Certification Service Launches “AIR Transformation” Public Website

Early last week, the FAA’s Aircraft Certification Service (AIR) announced the launch of their “AIR Transformation” public website in their quarterly external newsletter Spring Update. The Director of AIR, Dorenda Baker, states in the newsletter, “The Aircraft Certification Service (AIR) continues to pursue the vision of AIR:2018 through a holistic transformation to a more efficient and effective organization. This issue highlights recent initiatives that remove barriers in the certification process, reduce the FAA’s level of involvement in the critical path, embrace innovative, safety-enhancing solutions, and increase AIR’s agility.”

FAA Releases Draft AC on Additional Maintenance Requirements for Part 135 Air Carriers
|
|
Last week, the Aircraft Maintenance Division (AFS-300) released draft advisory circular (AC) 135-7B, Part 135: Additional Maintenance Requirements for Aircraft Type Certificated for Nine or Less Passenger Seats. The draft AC applies only to 14 CFR part 135 certificate holders that use aircraft that are type certificated for nine or less passenger seats, excluding the pilot seat. Comments on the draft AC are due on or before July 5, 2016.

FAA to Implement Private Pilot Airplane and Instrument Rating Airplane Certification Standards this Month
|

On June 15th, the FAA will implement the Airman Certification Standards (ACS) for Private Pilot Airplane (PAR) and Instrument Rating Airplane (IRA). The Practical Test Standards (PTS) documents for PAR and IRA will be cancelled as of that date. The FAA highly encourages students and instructors to review the ACS material published on the Airman Testing webpage. The Airman Certification Standards webpage offers the latest information and updates and provides an ACS briefing, FAQ and an information brochure. NATA and Fireside Partners Present A New ERP Workshop
|

The “Back to Basics: ERP Workshop for Aviation Businesses” will be held September 13-14 at the NTSB Training Center in Northern Virginia and is a training event designed to provide a fundamental understanding of Emergency Response Programs (ERP) for all aviation businesses. The program covers regulatory requirements and industry "best practices," using a combination of classroom learning and practicum exercise. The workshop will include both general sessions addressing the commonalities of building successful ERPs and cultures within any aviation organization, and breakout sessions to provide in-depth learning relevant to each specific line of business. Rodger Renaud Promoted to President of West Star Aviation

West Star Aviation announced that their current Chief Operating Officer (COO) Rodger Renaud, has been named president of West Star Aviation. He will work with Bob Rasberry, Chief Executive Officer, to continue with West Star's growth. "We have been lucky to have Rodger. He has been an effective leader in his role as COO for three years and I am confident he will excel in his new position as president. He will be working with more of our strategic initiatives while still handling operations during our robust growth," stated Bob Rasberry, CEO of West Star Aviation. Read more.
