Oversight and Renewal Requirement for Certain Designees Impacted by the Government Shutdown

On January 28th, the FAA issued a memo to all Flight Standards and Aircraft Certification Offices to allow for the deviation of the FAA Orders and Policy that address training, oversight and renewal requirement due dates for certain designees impacted by the December 2018 government shutdown.

This deviation allows FAA personnel to extend the due date for designee recurrent training, oversight and renewal for those due on or after December 22, 2018 to April 30, 2019. This means that designees in good standing, including Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) holders, may continue to perform authorized functions in an active status. Read more here.

NATA Airport Business Committee Holds Winter Meeting in San Antonio, TX

On January 29th, the Association's Airport Business Committee convened at NATA member Million Air's facility in San Antonio, Texas. Committee Chairman Josh Hochberg (Sonoma Jet Center) welcomed the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association's (AOPA) VP of Airports and State Advocacy, Mike Ginter, to the meeting to discuss the "Know Before You Go" initiative on recommended best practices for the communication of prices and fees and to demonstrate how the AOPA Airport Directory can be an effective tool for achieving that objective. The Association appreciates the open dialog with AOPA in collaborating on initiatives that promote continuous improvement of customer service and the means to highlight this commitment. NATA will continue to work with the Airport Business Committee to outline the varied options available for participating as a best practice FBO in this and other operational areas.  NATA encourages our members to participate in the industry-wide "Know Before You Go" initiative by choosing one of the many options for making prices and fees available online.

Also, at the meeting, NATA staff members provided an update on proposed guidance changes to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 409 - Standard on Aircraft Hangars and discussed the latest FAA Draft Order 5090.5, Formulation of the NPIAS-ACIP. The draft order aims to establish guidelines for managing and maintaining the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) and the Airports Capital Improvement Plan (ACIP). The committee will reconvene in June during NATA's annual Aviation Business Conference in Washington, D.C.
