 NATA Holds Breakthrough Meeting with IRS on Federal Excise Tax Issue |
On Thursday, May 16, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) informed the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) that the agency will suspend potential assessments associated with current ongoing audits of aircraft management companies that are facing significant uncertainty as to their potential Federal Excise Tax (FET) liability. | Pompeo Introduces Legislation To Help Revitalize General Aviation |
On Tuesday, May 7, U.S. Representative Mike Pompeo (R-KS) introduced legislation, H.R. 1848- The Small Aircraft Revitalization Act, that will improve safety, decrease costs, and free private-sector innovation. The legislation calls for the FAA to reorganize requirements to streamline the approval of safety advancements. For more information, click here.

On Thursday, May 16, members of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation heard testimony from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Michael Huerta on the implementation of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act, which was signed into law on February 14, 2012. | Nebraska Governor Reaffirms Importance Of General Aviation |
On May 15, Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman signed a proclamation at the State Capitol, declaring May 2013 as “General Aviation Appreciation Month.” This is the third proclamation by the governor recognizing the importance of general aviation, with previous proclamations signed in 2010 and 2012. Recently, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie declared May 2013 “General Aviation Appreciation Month” across the state. “General aviation provides a substantial economic benefit to New Jersey from the operation of the public use airport system and from the tourism and commerce it supports,” the proclamation states. | Next NATA Safety 1st Ground Auditor Training To Be Held In June |
NATA has announced its next NATA Safety 1st Ground Auditor Training program will be held June 25 and 26 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The NATA Safety 1st Ground Audit Standard is a single audit standard for ground handling facilities, such as FBOs, that aims to raise the standard of safety throughout the industry and eliminate the need for multiple annual audits. Individuals interested in becoming an accredited auditor must submit an application, meet the minimum requirements and complete the NATA Safety 1st Ground Auditor Training program.

| Bob Marinace Joins Solairus Aviation’s Executive Management Team |
Solairus Aviation announced May 15 that industry veteran Bob Marinace has been appointed as Executive Vice President, effective immediately. Included in his vast list of experience, Marinace served on the National Air Transportation Association Board of Directors, the Air Charter Safety Foundation Executive Board and has been a member of several FAA Aviation regulatory and advisory groups.
