ICAO Releases Changes to Business and General Aviation Standards Adopted in 2016
|
|
Last week, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) published a summary of changes to its Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS) adopted in 2016 by the ICAO Council. The changes to the SARPS became applicable November 10, 2016. As outlined in the bulletin, "It should be noted that the changes to the Annexes for the most part, are not applicable to the operator until actioned in the State legislative framework or otherwise implemented in infrastructure. The main exceptions are standards governing the conduct of flights over the high seas (outside 12NM territorial sea) where State sovereignty no longer governs.” Click here to view the changes.

Scottsdale Commissioners Warn of Impact of Continuing Residential Development

Recently, the Scottsdale Airport Advisory Commissioners wrote the city’s Mayor and City Council Members to highlight the “unintended consequences that can arise from the encroachment of residential development near the Scottsdale Airport,” a top 50 business aviation airport. The Commissioners cited the current situation at Santa Monica Airport (SMO) in California to illustrate the ramifications of open-ended development near the airport. Airport Advisory Commission Chair, Brad Berry, concluded, “…residential developments do not appear to be slowing down. They are continuing to come…we respectfully ask you to help us preserve this gem in our community for future generations of aviation users and the benefit of our wonderful city.”

Report Demonstrates Contributions of NATA Members at Van Nuys Airport (VNY) to Local Community

A newly released report, commissioned by the Los Angeles World Airports and conducted by Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), concludes the Van Nuys Airport (VNY) contributes two billion dollars to the local economy and supports more than 10,000 jobs. NATA President Martin H. Hiller praised the report stating, “Studies like these are invaluable in NATA’s efforts to demonstrate to policymakers at the local, state and federal levels the positive impact of general aviation on communities. The Van Nuys Airport study clearly validates the important role of our members in creating and sustaining jobs, growing the economy, connecting the community and supporting commerce.” Read more.

NATA Participates in "New Unleaded Avgas Deployment" Meeting
|

Last week, NATA staff participated in FAA/industry discussions addressing focus areas related to a potential transition from 100LL to unleaded Avgas. The group received status updates from the deployment action team leads on the following issues: State/Federal Legislative; Aircraft Fuels Regulations and Standards; Fuel Manufacturing Capability; Distribution System; Airports; Aircraft Modifications; Communication and Training; and International Communications. NATA leads the Airport Deployment Action Team and serves as a member of the Piston Aviation Fuels Initiative Steering Group. The Jackson Hole Airport Board owns the Jackson Hole Airport located in Teton County, Wyoming. The Board is soliciting Statements of Qualifications and Experience for its use in selecting a firm or design team to develop and help the Airport Board evaluate options, design, assist with bidding, and perform construction oversight of a new fuel facility on the Airport. This oversight will also include removal of the existing underground general aviation fuel facilities. Jet Aviation Receives IS-BAH Standard Registrations Across Its Entire FBO Network in EMEA and Asia

Last week Jet Aviation announced that its network of 11 FBO facilities across EMEA and Asia has received IS-BAH Standard (International Standard for Business Aircraft Handling) registration from the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC). Jet Aviation’s Safety and Quality Manager for FBOs in the region, Daniel Brechbühl stated, "Continuous improvement is a priority at Jet Aviation and our FBO facilities have been working closely together to standardize our handling processes since the IS-BAH registration program was introduced two years ago. Duncan Aviation Prepares for Winter with New De-Icing Protocols

Duncan Aviation recently sent six team members of the Line Crew from Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Lincoln, Nebraska, to NATA’s Safety 1st Advanced De-Icing Workshop. After attending the two-day workshop, all Duncan Aviation FBO locations updated its deicing procedures and protocols, resulting in better communication among the team and with pilots. Learn more.

EPIC Fuels and Signature Flight Support Team Up to Improve and Expand Aviation Card Networks

EPIC Fuels and Signature Flight Support have signed an agreement that will allow EPIC Fuels to become the card issuer for the new Signature Flight Support Multi Service Aviation co-branded aviation card. The new card will be accepted at all Signature facilities in the U.S. and Canada, as well as at all EPIC and UVair FBO Network branded locations. Learn more.
