NATA, GA Groups Oppose Capping of Veterans’ Flight Training Benefits

Last week, NATA joined other major general aviation groups in a letter to the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee opposing a provision in HR 4149, legislation to improve the delivery of veterans’ flight training benefits, but would cap the amount of funding available for training. The groups noted that despite the numerous provisions in the bill to improve the program’s efficiency, the proposed capping of program payments unfairly impacts the ability of veterans to pursue well-paying jobs in the civilian aviation sector. “Capping funds available for flight training degree programs virtually guarantees that veterans seeking to use their GI Bill benefits to enter the aviation industry will have insufficient funds to achieve their goals,” forcing veterans to either abandon their pursuit or be burdened with significant personal debt, the groups notes. The letter urges the Committee to remove the discriminatory cap on flight training at public institutions and to “keep the promises that will allow veterans their choice of career.”

NATA Collaborates with FAA to Update and Clarify NOTAM on Fuel Contamination

Last Thursday, NATA sent an alert to its membership regarding the FAA issuance of a NOTAM announcing an investigation into a fuel contamination issue related to jet fuel sold in the central United States. The NOTAM brought into question the reliability of fuel sold in a large part of the Midwest.

Upon receipt of the notice, NATA immediately began investigating the issue. Working collaboratively with the FAA, the NOTAM was updated and clarified to Eppley Airfield between November 18-20, 2017. We appreciate the FAA working with NATA to resolve this issue in a timely manner.

NATA will keep members apprised as events continue to unfold. If you have any further questions or concerns regarding this NOTAM, please contact John McGraw, NATA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs at jmcgraw@nata.aero
