House Leadership to Move Short-Term Extension | Senate Prepares for Action
|
|
Confirming reports that indicate the controversial AIRR Act — containing a proposal to create a not-for-profit air traffic control corporation — is no longer on a fast track for floor consideration, House Leadership is pursuing a short-term extension of the FAA in advance of its March 31st expiration. House Transportation Committee Chairman Bill Shuster quickly responded to reports that the Leadership’s decision signaled the demise of the proposed corporation stating, “This is an ongoing process, and we will continue working to educate members and address questions they have about the bill.” Attention now turns to the Senate, where it is widely believed lawmakers are developing a long-term bill that does not include the corporatization proposal. The House legislation still poses a significant threat to aviation businesses and if you have not already done so, NATA encourages you to contact your elected representatives and express your opposition.

NATA and Allianz Announce New Workers Compensation Insurance Program Choice for Aviation Businesses
|
|
Last Thursday, NATA announced an agreement with global insurance carrier Allianz to provide an additional workers compensation insurance option for NATA members. Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) will serve as the underwriter for this broker-driven program featuring competitive rates, including NATA’s signature “Good Experience Return” that provides additional savings by rewarding companies with excellent safety records. “NATA’s new program with Allianz provides members an additional workers compensation insurance program option backed by an international insurance company that posts some of the highest financial ratings. The program aligns well with NATA’s mission of providing value to our membership and the promotion of good safety practices around the globe. As NATA’s international membership is growing rapidly, we are pleased to work with the global leader in aviation insurance to develop new products that benefit aviation businesses worldwide,” stated NATA President and CEO Thomas L. Hendricks.

New FAA Medical Certification Services Program Available for All Part 135 and 91 Operators
|
|
On February 26th, NATA launched a new “FAA Medical Certification Services” benefit program for Part 135 and 91 operators and their pilots. Administered by Harvey Watt & Co., this program was previously available only when combined with insurance products or through airlines for their pilots. The NATA FAA Medical Certification Services program grants an operator’s pilots unlimited confidential access to doctors & nurses, a subscription to Harvey Watt’s monthly Aviation Medical Bulletin and expert representation in submitting documents to the FAA, responding to FAA inquiries, expediting recertification case reviews, appeals, and presenting cases to specialty FAA board hearings. The program is now exclusively available through NATA for a budget-friendly flat, per-pilot monthly fee. NATA members are eligible for a significant additional discount.

Updated Truth in Leasing AC Includes NATA Recommendations
|
|
A new FAA Advisory Circular (AC 91-37B, Truth in Leasing) addresses aircraft truth in leasing requirements and incorporates changes recommended by NATA. The new guidance highlights the importance of aircraft lessees understanding operational control and offers guidance to help lessees avoid entering into illegal commercial operations. Efforts by some to evade compliance with air carrier certification requirements through devious leasing arrangements is emphasized throughout the draft document. NATA, in coordination with members of the Air Charter Committee, submitted comments to improve the AC. NATA appreciates the FAA’s action to update this guidance and adopt the association’s suggestions.

NATA Attends GAJSC SAT Meeting
|
| |
Last week, NATA’s Regulatory Affairs staff attended a General Aviation Joint Steering Committee Safety Analysis Team (GAJSC SAT) meeting in Washington, D.C. The participants, comprised of industry and government representatives, reviewed the status on several System Component Failure – Powerplant (SCF-PP) and Loss of Control (LOC) Safety Enhancements (SEs), along with discussing GA safety metrics and GAJSC action items assigned to the Safety Analysis Team. Friday, March 4th is the deadline to submit your nominations for the 2015 Industry Excellence Awards and the 2016 Aviation Maintenance Technician Employer Award Program. Each year, NATA presents awards to the exceptional individuals and companies that have helped to improve the general aviation community. The recipients of these awards are chosen based upon NATA member-submitted nominations. The Industry Excellence Awards, along with the AMT Employer Awards, will be presented at a luncheon held during NATA’s Aviation Business Conference in June 2016. The Bede Family Foundation Educates and Inspires Future Aviation Leaders

The Bede Family Foundation recently announced the formation of its 501-C non-profit. This foundation — designed to further the education of today's youth — delivers aircraft kits to schools and/or organizations that meet specific criteria. The organization hopes to inspire future aeronautical engineers, aircraft mechanics, and pilots. The foundation accepts cash and aircraft donations. If you donate an aircraft, the Bede Family Foundation non-profit can issue you a certified appraisal that can be used for tax deduction purposes. The non-profit then, salvages the aircrafts with the proceeds going to the foundation.
