IRS Releases New Guidance on Bonus Depreciation Extension
|
|
On August 26th, the IRS issued new guidance on changes to the depreciation rules under Sections 179 and 168 of the tax code that were enacted late last year by Congress in the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act (P.L. 114-113). Under this new guidance, businesses will now be able to claim missed bonus depreciation for assets placed in service in 2015.

New FAA Rules for Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Now in Effect
|
| |
The FAA’s new operational rules went into effect on August 29th for routine non-hobbyist use of small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). The Small UAS rule — formally known as Part 107 — provides safety regulations for unmanned aircraft drones weighing less than 55 pounds. The remote pilot in command must operate the drone only during daylight hours, at or below 400 feet above ground level (AGL), up to 100 mph airspeed, and must remain within the visual line-of-sight of the drone. NATA 2016 Flag Pins for Veterans Project
|
| |
Give back to those who fought to defend our nation and freedom! NATA’s 2016 Flag Pins for Veterans Project will run until October 31, 2016. Project participants are asked to display American-made flag pins in their operations with signage suggesting a $1.00 donation per pin or make a direct donation to the project. Last year’s campaign raised nearly $30,000 for the Veterans Airlift Command and Medal of Honor Foundation. NATA thanks our current (15) participants: American Jet Charter, Atlantic Aviation, Bakersfield Jet Center by Loyd's Aviation, Fargo Jet Center, Gary Jet Center, Inc., Greenbrier Valley Airport, Hill Aircraft, Jet Aviation, Keystone FBO Services, Montgomery Aviation, Inc., Napa Jet Center, NATA, Pentastar Aviation, Signature Flight Support and Stuart Jet Center. The National Air Transportation Foundation Is Accepting Scholarship Applications
|

NATA awards several scholarships throughout the year to aviation college/university program and flight training students — as well as association members looking to continue their education. The National Air Transportation Foundation (NATF) is currently accepting applications for: The Pioneers of Flight Scholarship, The Dan L. Meisinger Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship and The NATA Business Scholarship. Multiple awards are available from $1,000 to $2,500 with application deadlines in November and December 2016. Banyan Air Service Receives New FAA Repair Station Certificate
|
| |
Last month, Banyan Air Service Maintenance and Avionics received official documentation to merge Banyan’s individual repair station certificates. Previously, Banyan used one repair station certificate for airframe, limited powerplant, limited propeller, and limited NDT, while the avionics repair station operated separately and had ratings for radio and limited instruments. By combining the repair stations, the MRO will be more streamlined in customer support. In addition to the U.S. Certificated Repair Station, Banyan also has authorizations from EASA, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Cayman, Columbia, Paraguay, and Venezuela. Read more.

FlightSafety Announces New Leadership at DFW North Learning Center
|
| |
FlightSafety International recently named John Healey as an Assistant Manager of the company’s Dallas/Fort Worth North Learning Center. “John understands the unique requirements of our customers, and is committed to provide the highest quality training and outstanding service they deserve and expect,” said Daniel MacLellan, Senior Vice President, Operations. Healey joined FlightSafety in 2010 as an instructor in the Bell 412 training program and was instrumental in the startup of FlightSafety’s Airbus Helicopters EC-135 program. Read more.

On September 20th and 21st, NATA Safety 1st will hold its new Advanced De-Icing Workshop at TAC Air in Salt Lake City, Utah. The workshop will provide instruction on safety protocols associated with de-icing procedures, advanced de-icing techniques and hands-on de-icing training. All attendees will be provided the Safety 1st De/Anti-Icing Online Training module which must be completed in advance of the workshop. The preliminary agenda is available here.
