The FAA’s General Aviation Joint Steering Committee (GAJSC) has determined that improved and more frequent single-engine training in multi-engine airplanes could decrease the number of multi-engine loss of control events. Specifically, the committee recommends refresher V_mc training to improve pilot response during a power loss. The GAJSC also suggests that stall/spin accidents could be reduced through the equipage and use of angle of attack indicators in GA aircraft. Read more.

The NATA Ground Handling Safety Symposium is a new annual event developed by the NATA Safety Committee to promote safety at FBOs and other businesses utilizing general aviation ground handling. Held September 26-27 at the NTSB Training Center in Ashburn, Virginia, the symposium is designed for safety professionals, directors of safety, line service managers or operations managers — anyone who is responsible for making sure that aircraft are handled safely.

Last week, Phillips 66 expanded the list of eligible organizations in its Compassion Flight Fuel Rebate Program. The program roster now totals 30 charities and includes three new additions: Aviation Angels of Hope, Aviation in Action, and Children’s Flight of Hope. This initiative offers a $1-per-gallon avgas rebate to pilots who provide critically ill patients with free transportation to hospitals and medical facilities throughout the country. Compassion flights also support charities that provide transportation for organs, blood and patients awaiting organ transplants. “By alleviating some of the cost of avgas, it’s our hope that more pilots will fly for these incredibly worthy organizations, providing more flights and more life-saving trips to those in need,” said R.G. Today, Cutter Aviation announced the promotion of Tara Creel-Cesena to FBO General Manager at Phoenix Deer Valley Airport and the appointment of Sylvia Graebe as Charter Sales & Aircraft Acquisitions Manager for the Charter & Flight Management Department based in Phoenix AZ. Creel-Cesena’s knowledge and work ethic led to her second promotion in 2015 as Assistant General Manager at Cutter Aviation - Phoenix Deer Valley.
