NATA Launches Free Supplemental Safety Training Program
Last week, NATA launched the Supplemental Safety Training Program, enabling the association to rapidly respond to urgent industry safety issues. The first course, developed for FBOs, addresses the risk of jet fuel contamination with diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). This program, available free to all aviation businesses, provides background information on DEF, identifying possible risk contamination pathways and mitigation steps. “NATA is first and foremost committed to providing its members every possible safety enhancing tool. This new responsive resource was made possible by the hard work and dedication of the NATA Safety Committee and establishes a framework to quickly address future industry safety concerns,” stated NATA President Martin H. Hiller. Companies not currently participating in Safety 1st should contact safety1st@nata.aero to access the free Supplemental Safety Training course.

NATA Supports Expanded Logging of Pilot Flight Hours
Last week, NATA joined with three other leading aviation associations in comments to the FAA urging the agency to act on a previous rulemaking that would allow pilots flying Second in Command (SIC) for Part 135 operations requiring only one pilot to accrue flight time towards an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certification.
In 2016, NATA supported FAA’s proposal to make the SIC flight time change. Because a final rule has not yet been issued, NATA joined with the Cargo Airline Association, the Regional Airline Association and the Regional Air Cargo Carriers Association to request action. In addition to supporting the initial changes proposed, the associations asked the FAA to permit SICs to log time in both multi-engine aircraft (as proposed) and high-performance single-engine aircraft. Read the complete regulatory docket containing the initial rulemaking proposal and industry comments here.
