NATA Air Charter Operators Town Hall This Month in Long Beach, CA
|
|
|
An NATA Air Charter Operators Town Hall will be held January 18th at the Long Beach Airport. The Town Hall is open to all Part 135 air charter operators. Join your colleagues from across the region for a day of networking and industry updates. This event brings operators together to discuss shared concerns and interact with the association’s Air Charter Committee. This is your opportunity to be heard.
Topics will include discussion of regional matters, as well as legislative and regulatory updates.

U.S. Supreme Court to Consider Flytenow Case January 6

On January 6th, U.S. Supreme Court Justices will discuss whether the full court should hear an appeal by Flytenow to overturn the FAA’s legal interpretation that pilots using its online flight-sharing websites are likely in violation of the agency’s common carriage requirements. Flytenow shut down its website in December 2015 after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia denied its request to overturn the interpretation. Recently, NATA responded in the Wall Street Journal to an opinion piece authored by Flytenow’s attorneys. NATA President Marty Hiller noted, “This is part of a campaign to convince people it is now acceptable to allow the public to ride-share with private pilots with potentially little flight time or training for challenging weather conditions.” Hiller also observed it was important to look at the legislative language supported by Flytenow, which has more to do with overriding the agency’s safety regulations rather than claims that the FAA is restricting internet-based communications by pilots.

NATA Comments on Draft AC 120-72A, Maintenance Human Factors Training

Last week NATA, in consultation with its Maintenance and Systems Technology Committee, commented on FAA draft Advisory Circular AC 120-72A, Maintenance Human Factors Training. The association concludes it contained inconsistencies and contradictions with existing regulations and policy and recommends the agency withdraw this revision and realign both the draft AC and the FAA Order 8900.1 to Title 14CFR 145. The AC is intended to present sources of information for certificate holders to develop, implement, reinforce, and assess aircraft maintenance human factors (MxHF) training programs. The previous version AC 120-72, issued in 2002, presented guidelines for developing, implementing, reinforcing and assessing Maintenance Resource Management (MRM) training programs for improving communication, effectiveness, and safety in maintenance operations.

NATA Flag Pins for Veterans Project Raises Over $75,000 in Three Years
|

|
The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) is pleased to announce the donation of nearly $18,000 to veterans organizations raised through the 2016 NATA Flag Pins for Veterans Project. NATA and its members started the project in 2014 to support our nation’s veterans and raised over $75,000 in three years. Donations from this year will once again support the Veterans Airlift Command and the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation. Nineteen NATA member organizations of all sizes joined NATA staff to participate in this year’s NATA Flag Pins for Veterans Project. Signature Flight Support, Atlantic Aviation, and Jet Aviation were significant donors to this year’s program.

FAA Warns of Accidental Control Knob Selections
|
| |
|
The FAA published InFo 16022, advising pilots, instructors and safety directors of the potential for inadvertently changing correct selections in avionics and other systems with concentrically centered control knobs. Citing recent reports from manufacturers and pilots, the FAA noted these errors are likely to occur when pilots dial in communications and navigation frequencies.

Cutter Aviation recently completed the necessary requirements to begin operating two new HondaJet Aircraft on its FAA Part 135 Air Carrier Certificate. The first ever FAA Part 135 charter flight in a HondaJet departed soon after from Cutter Aviation Phoenix Sky Harbor. Read more.
