Government Funded until Feb. 15 | NATA Continues to Monitor Long-term Effects of Shutdown
|
|
On Friday, President Trump signed a measure to temporarily fund the government until February 15, 2019. The legislation was passed swiftly by House and Senate via voice votes. Although federal employees are returning to their posts, the industry can still expect delays in the processing of certificates, permits, permissions and other documentation as work gets underway to catch up on all administrative and other functions that have been delayed or on hold for the past 35 days.
When the shutdown entered its fourth week, NATA released a Member Alert highlighting its toll on the aviation industry. From furloughed TSA workers and air traffic controllers forced to work without pay, to the inability for member companies to receive permissions and permits from the FAA, the aviation community felt the effects of a closed government. NATA’s staff is available to answer questions and document stories regarding the shutdown.
As the affected federal workers return to work amid backlogs, deadlines and the uncertain threat of another looming shutdown, NATA will continue to monitor developments and the impact on aviation businesses. Please call (800) 808-6282 or email Shannon Chambers, Managing Director of Marketing and Communications, at schambers@nata.aero or Megan Eisenstein, Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs, at meisenstein@nata.aero

Last October, NATA along with 5 additional major aviation associations jointly released the “Know Before You Go" best business practice. The joint release outlines a series of communications best practices—including publishing an online list of potential prices, fees and charges that pilots may face when landing at an airport. It also recommends customers contact FBOs directly, “so that operators can ask questions, know and evaluate their options, and make informed decisions.”
Since the joint release, several FBOs have implemented online posting of prices, fees and other potential charges. However, NATA has received questions seeking guidance regarding how to best achieve the Know Before You Go best business practice. NATA’s Airport Business Committee is working on providing additional guidance and tools to further enhance communications between FBOs and their customers.
To help in this process of communication, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) recently updated its website to allow FBOs the ability to enter and update pricing, fees and charges and achieve the Know Before You Go best business practice. This can be found at www.aopa.org/destinations/. For those FBOs interested in posting on AOPA’s website, please click here for instructions.
If you have questions regarding Know Before You Go, please contact Mike France, NATA’s Managing Director of Safety & Training at mfrance@NATA.aero.
NATA also seeks to recognize those FBOs that go above and beyond in their commitment to implementing best business practices and providing exemplary service to customers and communities. Contact Shannon Chambers at schambers@nata.aero to share your story and visit www.nata.aero/aboveandbeyond to learn more about how FBOs work to make general aviation even better each day.

FAA Issues Super Bowl LIII™ Special Air Traffic Procedures for Atlanta Area
|
|
Due to the large number of aircraft expected for Super Bowl LII™, the FAA has announced special traffic management procedures to ensure safety and minimize air traffic delays associated with the increase in game-related general aviation flights that local Atlanta airports will experience. The FAA is not imposing a slot requirement; however, all aircraft will require an FBO ramp reservation for arrivals and departures in the days preceding and following the event. Operators planning flights to airports in the vicinity between January 29 and February 5, 2019 should contact their preferred FBO to secure space as soon as possible. Operators should also remember that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) typically announces flight restrictions 3-5 days prior to the game.
